We had the good fortune of connecting with Dejerae Trujillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dejerae, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I think the most impactful thing I’ve done in terms of parenting is provide a safe space in which we consistently have an open line of communication. Not every child’s needs are the same and I make it very clear to my son that if there is a need of his that is not being met we can discuss that or if I’m doing something he feels is incorrect we are able to discuss it in a non-offensive conversation.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have a couple of businesses to date. Currently, I am a real estate agent here in the heart of Denver as well as Co-Owner of Sip & Spray – a luxury mobile tanning service. I have been in the real estate industry for 7 years. Getting established in the industry at the age of 22 wasn’t the easiest but I dedicated myself to my trade and I’m so thankful for the path I journeyed down. My business partner Kim and I started Sip & Spray over a year ago and what I thought was going to be just a small side business for me has flourished into a full-time gig. Being a single mother forces me to succeed even when I feel like giving up. The thought of being a good mother always trumps the feeling of being tired or not motivated. I wake up every single day looking for the next opportunity.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend we’re visiting Denver I’d obviously mix up a little bit of the outdoors and the city. I’m not much of the outdoors type but I do love the hot springs and hanging lake is an absolute must-see. Eating- well that’s more my thing. I’d definitely take them to all of my favorite spots around Denver whether it’s Narrative for brunch, Mexico City for tacos or Guard and Grace for a beautiful evening and of course 54thirty at sunset for happy hour.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My best friend Aaron. He’s been by my side for years and no matter what point in life we are at he continuously manages to be selfless when I’m feeling like giving up. He’s the most uplifting spirit I’ve ever been graced to be in the presence of and I honestly can say I don’t think I would be here without him.
