We had the good fortune of connecting with Delaney Watkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Delaney, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
There are many reasons as to why I have decided to pursue a career in art. Creating art has been my greatest passion of mine for as long as I can remember. It has been the backbone of much of my confidence.
I have worked plenty of penny jobs, but in 2018, I began working as a Paraprofessional with special needs children. I will always have a genuine love and dedication to those kids, but the money is simply not there.
In 2019, after creating about two years’ worth of newer art, I applied for my first art show. Much to my surprise, I was successful! This is the point at which I realized that I actually am able to make an income from my art. I am able to do what I love and make a living. Hopefully. That’s the goal, at least. I will always continue to pursue my passion for art because it is seriously all I want to do with my life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of my growth as a person through my art. It’s so relieving to express myself creatively and learn about who I am becoming. I would not be at the level of success that I currently am at if it weren’t for my parent’s support. It was not easy starting my business but through constant trials and errors, my parents and I have learned a lot about the art scene and what it takes to build a business from nothing. A lesson that I’ve learned over the last couple of years is that my art is not for everybody and that’s okay! As long as I am being true to myself creatively, none of that matters.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend and I have completely opposite personalities, so I would take her to the Strip and be out partying all night; which is not my cup of tea. I prefer a quiet day in the woods or in nature in general. We always compromise and do a little bit of both.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents have been the most supportive people I’m my life. They have always encouraged my growth as an artist by purchasing art supplies for my siblings and me throughout our childhood. I would not be where I am today without their unconditional love and support.
