We had the good fortune of connecting with Derek Camunez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Derek, how do you define success?
Success to me is living your life without regrets. In knowing that every challenge we face in life can either be looked upon as a learning opportunity, or as our own demise. By plowing through, rather than giving up, we find the skills within ourselves to climb the mountain, and enjoy the view at the top.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I became a real estate assistant when I was 16 years old, and obtained my real estate license after high school. I sold real estate all through college, where I studied fiction and poetry writing. This endeavor allowed me to find balance along with drawing, photography, singing and acting. Through these various abilities, I was able to network and grow my business acumen. 15 years later, I opened my first international real estate company along with my mother. 10 years after that we opened our RE/MAX franchise, and were the first woman / minority owned office in the system. To this day, we pride ourselves on inclusivity among our agents and clients. During this time, I also served as President of the Denver Board of Realtors, and currently serve on the Board of a local non profit, Knock Knock Angels Colorado that helps those transitioning out of homelessness by procuring everything needed for their first home, including furniture, bedding, and the basic items which make a house a home.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A day out would include a visit to the Clyfford Still museum, wine tasting at Vin Rouge, Tapas at Barcelona and Karaoke at Rhapsody followed by dinner at Reckless noodles then jazz at Dazzle.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout would first and foremost go to my parents who instilled in me the ability to rely on myself, and to see the possibilities in others.
