We had the good fortune of connecting with Derrick DeLeon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derrick, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks is an uncomfortable thing to do. It comes with emotionally detaching from the negative that could become habitual. Risk taking in my life has always served as a reminder that if I succeed, keep my head down and if I fail, keep my head up. I have taken many risks that ended in both good and bad but just like anything in life, there is always a price to pay and the question is what risk are we willing to take? I knew I wanted to be a business owner and I didnt know how and where to start. Its nerve wrecking to figure out how to speak my ideas into existence and nothing in life happens by accident. I was willing to risk myself and if I get denied, I get denied. When I learned to eliminate the fear of the word “NO” because I hated to get a “NO” from someone, we all hate denial because in those moments, your integrity, self esteem and motivation get shot. It’s the bridge of doing something unfamiliar to the average person and I wanted to get out of being average and mediocre. Don’t be afraid to go up against yourself, be your #1 truth teller but also be your #1 cheerleader.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from others is leading a team to collaborate at the top. Action taker and influencing by being humble, the journey has not been easy but a big shoutout to my Mother (Cindy), Father (Rod), brother (Zach) and of course my beautiful daughters (Nyellie & Melaya for all of their love and support over the years.

I’m most excited about seeing my team win, we’ve become that force of individuals that some may seek for years and to all have a common vision that feeds the juggernaut is something unheard of to me. Our sustainability and boldness has us on a much higher echolan.

I got to where I am today by being an opportunist. I came to an understanding that people that have what I want, dont care about what we know. I kept my mouth shut and remained a student and still remain a student however, I commit to those who are in need of what I know and what could benefit them for my trial and error and lessons to be learned from it. One opportunity led to another and there are two people who really believed in me 5 years ago —started with Danielle Baria and then Jarold Hammond. Both gave me a chance and why? Because of two reasons, I was a hard worker and I had a great attitude. I kept applying what I was learning into the next phase of my life or other opportunities and ot manifested over the course of 7 years.

I overcame a lot of adversity, it was exhausting wondering what is my purpose, what is my destiny. A man often finds his destiny on the path he takes to avoid it and this was me. I never would’ve thought that I would be working for the various platforms in the industry that we all grew up watching and listening too. I stayed resilient and never allowed myself to negotiate or question myself. I have many quotes that I live by and this is one of them—”use motivation as a kickstart not a kickstand, use discipline as your kickstand.

I want the world to know what it takes to Be Great. Believe. Become. Be Great, its what I live by. For the world to be impacted by my dedication and prioritization to bettering the communities, the youth and those who need a vision or who may feel stuck because I advocate for opportunists and people who have zero experience in something that may take 4+ years to get. From Revelation Media, Generational Opportunities and Be Great, I am fortunate enough to be apart of it all. Remember Derrick DeLeon by the authenticity, commitment to excellence, impact on others and the service to the world that is brought to you by BE GREAT!.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m the one guy who I believe knows the greatest spots (of course, right?) LOL. We would kick off the day with a “WTAU!!” Text message (inside joke) say a prayer, hit the gym or even outdoor walk, go to Great Scott’s for breakfast, Cherry Cricket for lunch and Melting Pot for dinner. I would take them to a Denver Broncos game, a concert, Basketball Social House, we are drinking H2O on the rocks and eating ice cube salads (LOL) on a serious note, when I go out to eat, I rarely drink anything other than water. We would take a move trip, I would set up some time for them to meet my team and many others whom I’m associated with. Some of the most exciting places ive checked out are Meow Wolf, Museum of Illisions, Art Museum, Empower Field and then top it off by going to the casinos in Blackhawk.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I first want to say thank you to my lord and savior for the strength and wisdom to do anything in life. I do want to dedicate this to my family – Nyellie, Melaya, Rodney, Cindy and Zach DeLeon because without their support and guidance, I can’t see this being possible and also to my daughters (above mentioned) for being leaders as well. Also shoutout to Brandon, Aron and Chubs over at Generational Opportunities for positioning me to help equip the youth for going for it all and standing by my side as leaders. Tab Rodriguez—my sister and partner in crime for sharing her life whenever I needed someone and allowing me to confidr in her. There are 3 people that really led me to this point that I won’t ever dismiss —Danielle Baria, Jarold Hammond and my late and great brother – Christian Santamaria. Without the above mentioned, it’s really hard to see the success in this. Ultimately yes, I am the one who took these opportunities and without my mindset and attitude, I wouldn’t have been trusted to be in the right places. Shoutout to the whole team we have now, 18 total that we work with and alongside. I love you ALL!
