We had the good fortune of connecting with Desarae Sethman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desarae, what matters most to you?
Love. Do all things in love. I would have to say, that would be the principle that matters the most to me, it is truly a cornerstone in my life and a driving force in my business, and personal decisions. What gets me through the hard career days? Love, passion, if you love what you do, it makes it easier to face the difficult days. Adulthood is not easy, and there are days that it doesn’t feel worth it, but with love on board, it’s all manageable and all worthy of care. Live a life you love is the motto I will forever encourage the people around me to strive for.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would have to say, what sets me apart from others would be the positivity, unity, and openness I try to put out into the world. Not as much with the business side of my life but the creative part of my life. The platform I’ve created for myself online, has not been easy, but it has been worth it. I try to spread positivity and laughter with many of my posts, but I have also chosen to get vulnerable with my following which was a challenge for someone taught to only be strong… I discuss depression, anxiety, cycle breaking, toxic upbringing, addiction, the things not easily discussed. I chose to express so much online for a very simple reason, if other men or women can relate, and feel less alone in this world, than that is exactly what I want to do. The amount of messages I receive from people saying I’ve made a positive impact in their life with just some videos, is incredible, and it keeps me going when I hit mental or emotional road blocks. There’s enough people filling our feed with negativity and hate, if I can be a small light in that day, than I am happy. I’ve learned so much along the way, but one of the main things I’ve learned, is I too, am not alone, and it’s beautiful how freeing that has been. There is such wonder in vulnerability.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First on my list of places to go in Colorado would be telluride and ourai, it’s far from Colorado springs, but it is beyond worth the drive. I have never seen a place quite as beautiful as that mountain town. Next, would be the spillway off of lake George, camping there is just the best! There are also so many hiking spots, and if it’s winter, Breckenridge is absolutely incredible to board or ski at. If you go there, Downtown at Erics is where you have to have dinner! Also, the south park museum in FairPlay on your way to Breckenridge is an absolute blast and not talked about enough! Red Rocks amphitheater of course! No matter what concert you’re going to, it will be the best you’ve ever gone to if it’s at red rocks I promise you. Colorado Springs also has so many great local restaurants, I wouldn’t even know where to begin. Dos santos tacos is definitely a favorite though. Urbane Collective is a MUST SEE boutique, along with Yobel (which also includes the look up gallery inside). The look up gallery features a new local artist each month, and it’s always incredible. Axe and oak is a local brewing company with an amazing whiskey house in the Ivywilde, which is an awesome place with different places to eat, bars etc. all located in an old school, it’s pretty great!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Success is always better when shared, right? My number one reason for my success would have to be my children. Cliche I know, but my love for them, and my desire to lead by example, is a huge reason I find myself in the position I am in today. I was a stereotypical teen pregnancy story at the start, and I promised myself to lead my children to greatness by choosing to be great. I encourage them to be themselves, love themselves, and follow their heart, and who would I be if I didn’t lead by example. If I want my boys to grow up to be authentically, and unapologetically themselves, than I better follow suit. Next, a huge thanks to my fiance. Him and I own 2 companies together, and soon to have a third. If it weren’t for him believing in me, I would not be where I’m at today. I spent most of my life being told I can’t, being told I’m not worthy, being told I was mediocre at best, and then I met him. He is the entrepreneur in the relationship and has pushed me to make leaps in my life that I never would have had the courage to take. I have done things now I never thought I could accomplish, and I have. With him by my side I can conquer the world. He not only has encouraged me every step of the way, he has supported me, been my sound board, my confidant, and my best friend. I encourage anyone and everyone to get them a partner that sees their value, and helps them strive to be better each and every day. I hate the term power couple, but I do feel that’s exactly what we’ve created together, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you Nicholas, you are the pillar in my life, in my success, and in my heart. Lastly, there is a book shoutout I would like to offer… Codependent No More by Melody Beattie. Being raised in an addiction driven home, and me being born the people pleaser I am, I had no idea the unhealthy, codependent tendencies I carried in life. That book helped me break that mold, find confidence and love within myself, and gave me the backbone I never knew I had, all things that are helpful when finding a life worth loving. Thank you Melody!
