We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Maya and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desiree, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Success is not a solo sport. The people you surround yourself with can be the difference between crashing and catapulting. The more I’ve built a network and teams who are diverse and have skills that complement mine, the greater dividends I’ve received. I’ve chosen an environment of SAVERs, people who support, align, value-add, elevate, and rise with me. This has also meant evaluating relationships and setting healthy boundaries where appropriate.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve spent 17 years in consulting building expertise in healthcare process improvement, change management, executive coaching, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

My passion has always been the coaching part. In 2016 I went to the Teleos Leadership Institute and then took the International Coach Federation exam to become a certified coach.

Since then, I started a private coaching practice and began podcasting in 2020 as a way to share my experience, connect with experts around the world, and inspire everyday leaders & entrepreneurs.

There have been tremendous ups and downs like going through divorce, ending a business partnership, and having to re-brand, but every tribulation was a test that made me better.

Today, Born Unbreakable is a platform where people learn to overcome their self-limiting beliefs and become unapologetically the incredible human beings they’re meant to be. I couldn’t be more gratified to see people accomplish their dreams.

Now, I am working on Born Unbreakable, the book and can’t wait to bring this next work of inspiration into the world.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Las Vegas, Nevada where there is no shortage of fun and adventure! We would walk the famous Vegas strip, visit old Vegas on Fremont Street, ride the rollercoaster at the New York, New York, eat at the Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace, shop of course at the stores galore, watch Cirque du Soleil’s O at the Bellagio, go to private mansion parties, and check out the Hoover Dam.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m tremendously grateful for my PivotMe Mastermind group – Bethany, Chris, Erica, Lauren, and Nichole, led by my friend and mentor, April Garcia (International Business Advisor and Host of the PivotMe podcast). Every week, I’m in community with these amazing rock stars and they help hold me accountable to my goals and encourage me to be the best version of myself everyday.
