We had the good fortune of connecting with Deborah Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deborah, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
We underestimate the need for rest. Time away from the computer or work flow. Life is about balance, in so many areas of our lives we forget the importance of this. I have found that when I take time away from a busy day and give myself a 30 min brake here and there I actually get more done and feel less stressed about the tasks at hand.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
After nearly 14 years working as a stills photographer, I moved into film making as I wanted to take my skill set to the next level. After making my first documentary film, I realized the potential of this art form and wanted to use this creative path as a tool to share stories that shift peoples consciousness. It took a minute to assemble the right team around me as it has always been of importance to have people around me that not only love working with me yet are inspired to be the best they can be whilst working on projects together.
I know now that following ones heart is key to creating something to be proud of. To be sure of your ideas and preparation is also key before execution.
I know now that I want to make films that tackle subjects that are often not given a spotlight yet are crucial to our growth and social justices. It is not an easy path however it is rewarding when you see the effect your work has on the people that get to see it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am always reflecting on the support I have been shown with my creative endeavors over the years. There is no ‘one’ person, however many incredible people that have continued to show up for me and remind me that I am on the right path.
