We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika Becker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erika, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I first started out as a newly licensed acupuncturist and trying to build my patient base, I felt that I had to make myself available any time a patient needed me to be. I also was still working as a vascular ultrasound technician, so I was stretched thin trying to balance everything. Now, I work 4 days a week, and have Mondays off to prioritize my self-care, which I have found to be a non-negotiable if I am going to be able to show up for my patients and be able to give them the best care that I can.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Koselig Acupuncture, LLC is a place to experience healing and rest. I have worked hard to create an environment where one can feel at ease, relief from the stress that exists outside of the clinic doors, and somewhere where people are encouraged to be vulnerable to allow for healing to happen. There is no judgement in my treatment rooms, and I hope that all are met with kindness, light, and love. I got to where I am by taking a chance at buying a clinic, and I still cannot believe that I am doing this. It was something I didn’t see myself doing until I was 10 years older than I am. It was not easy. There are days I still find extremely challenging, especially as the world gets more stressful for people. I just had to trust that this was the path for me, and it has worked out so far! I have learned to take step back and look at the big picture and remember my vision instead of getting bogged down in the minutiae and the “how”, because that is when things really feel impossible. I would like for people to know that acupuncture is amazing! I have seen incredible things happen; shifts in people they never thought possible, and people with no other treatment options to try, get their life back. It is truly an honor and a privilege to bring someone back to themself, or better.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh yay! A show a Red Rocks is hands down a must, Mac Nation has mac and cheese that will change your life, I recommend hiking in Estes, and Lost Lake is my favorite hike. There’s just so much! I had a wonderful time down in Canyon City on the train and at the Abbey winery. If you can get to experience the view of Telluride, yes! As far a locally, pizza on the rooftop at Joy Hill followed by a beverage at Desert Social is a super fun time! La Chiva is an experience in itself too!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents. Growing up, they both owned their own businesses, and I guess it impacted me more than I realized. One succeeded, and one failed, but it was good for me to see that it can be done, if it is something you really want to do. My closest friends really encouraged me to take the chance on getting this practice and my doctorate degree, and witho0ut their support and understanding, I don’t know that I could have done either of those things, let alone both. And of course, Lil, the previous owner of the clinic, for believing that I could fill her shoes and care for her patients.
