We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

I have always loved to help people by facilitating them with finding their passion, boosting their confidence and making them feel included. That is the main reason why Sultan Elixir was created was to do just that but on a larger scale and through a business that can impact more lives.

I’m a strong believer in going after the things you want and I always knew that starting a business was something I wanted in life. I wasn’t too sure what business I wanted to start at first but it all became clear to me once I thought about the things I am good at and enjoy doing. I wanted to make people who love themselves feel regal, confident and included. I help my customers connect to their inner higher self.

I knew starting a business would not be easy, that is why I educated myself extensively before I started. It took hard work, dedication and consistency.I believe that whatever I put my mind to would blossom into something beautiful. I can’t imagine myself doing anything different than building this brand right now.

Sultan Elixir was built off of my personal values, culture and aesthetic. A black woman owned business and its roots are influenced by the African-American, African, Arabic and Muslim culture.

I feel that the culture of the brand is here to support the idea of black wealth and empowerment, and I feel confident knowing that this is a presence that is needed in the world today.

Personally, I feel blessed that through the adorned accessories my brand has to offer I can connect with it the unique goals and core values dedicated to empowering this specific group.

It is a pleasure for me everyday to provide a product that can make someone feel confident and included all while looking like royalty.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

My professional career just started recently. I graduated from Colorado State University in Spring 2021 with a bachelor’s of biological science. From there I got a job working at University Hospital as Laboratory personnel. In the lab I process specimens that are analyzed and tested. Laboratory results help clinical physicians make a diagnosis. I have always liked science and I always enjoyed being in the lab and that is why I chose this professional career path.

This professional route is not always known about. So I want to give awareness. It is a very important part of the medical world and does a lot of the behind the scenes work. It is a great career for someone who enjoys science and helping people without having to be in direct contact with patients.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

The top three places I would recommend enjoying if it was their first time in Colorado would have to be Kona grill, lookout mountain and 16th st mall, Kona Grill in cherry creek mall is one of my favorite places to get sushi in Denver.

Look out Mountain is a place I like to go and think and clear my head. I enjoy hiking and seeing outstanding views.

16th street mall is a place that has everything for everyone if you are looking for food shopping and things to do with the family.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to my friend Mahamoud Ahmed for helping and accompanying me on this entrepreneurial journey. He has supported me in so many ways and really has been my rock. Every time I felt like giving up and throwing in the towel he has helped me regain my confidence and motivation to continue this path. He believed in me and my vision at times I didn’t even believe in myself. For that I am forever grateful. It is rare to find people in your life that will be there during the hardship and the struggle and still support you. At this time I want to give him recognition and thanks for being there for me and without him undeniably Sultan Elixir wouldn’t be what it is today.
