We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Foss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
As a photographer myself, I knew one of the most important elements Fort Collins needed was a photo studio. It was vital for many reasons, but most importantly as a space for community. As passionate as photographers are about what they do, we need each other! It can be a lone wolf profession, and to have a tangible place to gather for events, workshops, happy hours, styled shoots, and beyond was so needed because it brings us together to build each other up, learn from one another, and thrive together in creativity. At the heart of Fort Collins Creative Co., we’re not just a photo studio. We’re a place for creatives of all walks to call home.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always known I see life a little differently than most, through the lens of a wilder unknown, and it’s led me to document it as such. I am a storyteller for people of all colors, sizes, & orientations–you are seen & celebrated here. When I’m not outside, cooking, or at happy hour, I’m off in an exotic corner of the world shooting my heart away. My work radiates not only the beauty of the world surrounding us, but the vibrancy, individuality, and resilience of the human spirit, stoking a deep sense of connection and wonder for all those experience it. The people I am capturing are just as much a part of my story as I am of theirs.
Getting to where I am today has been probably the most challenging thing I’ve ever done! But what I’ve learned is that as humans, our mind, body, and spirit are all interconnected + feed off each other. To do anything we do in life well, each of those elements needs to be operating at its highest potential.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely experience the night life in Old Town, there’s so much to explore. Experience the river park during the spring when the rapids are high + kayakers are cruising through. Take a hike up to Horsetooth or Arthur’s Rock. Relax on the poudre or do some fly fishing, then hit up the Mishawaka for a gorgeous dinner on the river.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All of my photography clients have been the source of my inspiration + encouragement, and they are the ones who tangibly support my business! Without them, I obviously wouldn’t be here! I love them all so much + am so grateful for them welcoming me in to the most intimate spaces of their lives.
