We had the good fortune of connecting with Destiny Nunez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I grew up all over Denver, but South Denver made the biggest impact on me. I was what my friend called ‘Just a South Denver Kid’. The Harvey Park area, to be specific, molded me into who I am today. Moving into the Harvey Park area with my family is what started it all, my parents had just bought our new home and the neighborhood was new to all of us. Soon after I was introduced to the muse of it all, Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy. Now, just coming out of a catholic school for middle School, going straight to a public school for high school was the scariest thing for my 14 year old self back then, but little did I know it was going to be the start of my self discovery. I started off in Theater and slowly trickled into a small photography class. First day, my photography teacher, Ms. Weisberger, played Annie Leibovitz: Life Through a Lens and I was hooked. From there on it was all I wanted to do. My iPhone held so much power at the time with it’s camera. I then only viewed my life through a lens.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Photography is quite literally my entire life. It took me a while to get to where I am, mostly because there was a lot of self doubt in my journey. It is very true when they say we are our own worst critic. I learned that there will always be a small amount of doubt in my mind regardless of where I’m at with my photography because I am human. But I have grown and proven with every photo that I deserve to be where I am at now.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take a trip to my favorite record store, Angelos CDs & Vinyl on Broadway , per one of my favorite movies Almost Famous, “if you ever get lonely, just go to the record store and visit your friends.” I would then go to Mile High Comics for a deep dive into Marvel Comics and Funko Pops. Grab a meal at Bourbon Grill and end my night at El Bombon Neveria on Federal for some fresas con crema.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a lot of people that deserve recognition in my story but I will take it back to the very start of it all. My classmates/friends/teachers from Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy. I want to thank every person who I forced into the stairway by the Stagecraft and Art classroom hallway, for the perfect white background for mini photoshoots with my iPhone.. To my friends who eventually became my muses once I was able to get my hands on my own camera. To Mrs. Weisberger for introducing me to the other realms of photography and introducing me to Annie Leibovitz, the main reason why I strive to be like Annie. Last but not least the person who bought me my first REAL camera, my Canon Rebel SL1, you know who you are, thank you.
