We had the good fortune of connecting with Devon Sants and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Devon, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I think that comes down to believing in yourself. I write music for me, so I feel as if I have to keep on doing so. It’s how I deal with changes and hardships.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a musician who finds solace and understanding in darkness. I like to go back to the origins of folk, blues and country through story-telling to create my own version of “Roots Rock”.

I am not afraid to write about darker subject matter or to be brutally honest, which has gotten me where I am today. It’s not easy to sing about some of the things because most are true stories from my own life. But that’s the only way for me to make it past those experiences.

I have definitely learned to keep ideas more private because other people in this industry are cutthroat, have no humility, and have absolutely no problem using others.

I want people to know that they are getting an honest performance full of authenticity and high energy. A real look into my soul.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well first off, I would take them to the Ogden, I’ve seen magical shows there. Then I would probably take them tubing down Boulder Canyon. For food I would take them to eat at Charlie Brown’s bar and Grill because it’s off the beaten path to the unique place to go.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I defined have a few people I would like to shout! First it would be my family for believing in me when I didn’t. Then it would be my good friends Chris Huisenga, Tom Frear and Ryan LittleEagle for pushing me to be a better musician always. And last but not least, Whitney Reiling for being the change in my life that made me want to become more than I ever thought possible.
