We had the good fortune of connecting with Devyn Mata and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Devyn, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I believe that we all struggle finding a work life balance. It’s so easy for us to say “Oh, I don’t have the time.”, or “I’m too busy.”, but in reality those are just excuses. I’m one to admit that I’ve used those same excuses in the past. However, over time those excuses pile up and overflow to the point where they take control. It’s about delegating tasks throughout the day and deciding whether they are a priority or not. I had to evaluate my goals, arrange my schedule, and even make sacrifices. Overtime, those goals started checking off my list. I realize that if I wanted it badly enough, I would make the time. I would remove bad habits and replace them with good ones. These good habits would allow me to think more clearly, be more positive, and stay motivated. It truly is finding that work life balance that allows us to grow and flourish into something spectacular. We are all capable of accomplishing this balance if we set our minds to it and work hard for it. I also believe with balance comes happiness, and we all deserve to be happy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think the best, and sometimes worst, part about this life is that we only have one. Knowing that we only have one life, I’d like to believe that I’ve taken the opportunity to try multiple ventures. I’ve learned that it’s all about trial and error. Trying and failing allows us to figure out what works and what doesn’t. I’ve always wanted to be an artist in some way or another. I suppose that’s what sets me apart from others, is that I have never really been comfortable with just one art medium. However, I’ve never really been comfortable with just one passion either. I love creating art, traveling the world, focusing on health & fitness, but also to inspire others to do the same. I always like to expand my knowledge anyway I can. My heart and soul strives to succeed at whatever I set out to do. With the determination to move forward and the support of my loving friends and family, I’m here today doing what I love. Working for my dreams, goals, and ambitions is never easy. I will always be working hard to overcome the challenges that come with them. I know deep down that if I don’t continue to push myself that they wont come true. I want the world to know that its ok to try new things and to find what makes them happy, because I know I will be. At the moment my main focus has been art by day, instructing Kickboxing by night. I’m also about to launch a Podcast (The Tea Circle) with my friend Mark! This podcast will be launched January of 2022 and it will be all about positivity and finding your happiness. Why? Because we truly are all in this together!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of the best things about Colorado, there is so much to do here! First, I would try and convince my friend to stay longer than a week! Most of my itinerary would have to include outdoor activities because I love getting outside. I’d start by taking them to Manitou Springs to walk them through the little shops. Depending how the elevation effected them, I’d like to hike the Incline of Pikes Peak with them or go walking through the Cliff Dwellings. Both of which have beautiful views for making memories! Some indoor activities would include taking them to Boulder where I would invite them to Total Fitness Kickboxing, the studio I instruct at! I think we would have a blast kicking and punching the bag around together! I’d also take them to get tea at the Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse! Such an amazing experience and really good food too! Other activities would include hiking around Colorado to take advantage of all the beautiful sceneries. I would love for us to go to the Butterfly Pavilion because I’ve never been. So it would be something new we both can experience together! Then I would end the trip by spending time in downtown Denver. Going to places like the Denver Art Museum and spending an evening at this very tasteful restaurant called Ultreia. I would hope this friend could return soon so we could venture out again!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout to my friends and family. They are the ones that have supported me through every one of my ventures and have encouraged me to keep going even when I’ve failed. Life is about continuously failing and trying again until finding what makes us happy. We can all push ourselves to keep going. However, it makes a huge difference to have a team in one’s corner. We should all be pushing and striving to be our very best, so why do it alone? We’re all in this together. I would not be where I am today without the motivation and guidance I have received from all of them. Thank you, and I love you!
