We had the good fortune of connecting with Diane Allison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diane, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have had an online vintage business on Etsy since 2009. After amassing a giant collection of fabulous vintage and wanting to have a physical space where people could try things on and connect with pieces in a more personal way, the time seemed right to jump on an open space in my hometown of Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have loved vintage clothing for as long as I can remember! I feel an affinity towards preloved items and am aways interested in learning the history of a garment. If I find something that I love and that needs some work, I am happy to tackle a reworking or upcycling to extend the life of a piece. When I sell a piece, I love telling the story of its provenance. I have sold many pieces to movie sets for period appropriate wardrobes and to Rock Stars for performance wear. Helping every client fell great in the way they look and lending to their personal style is my favorite thing about what I do.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wheat Ridge has a lot of fun eateries and shopping! Of note places to grab a bite and drink, Little Brazil, Wolf and Wildflower, Clancy’s, Moonrise Garden food truck court, and Mestizo Brewery. And for more of a breakfast/coffee experience, Mr. Bisquits, Get Rights, Stylus and Crate, Bardo Coffee. Artcentric for framing needs and art immersion. All Seasons Holiday Market for an array of gifts and local made products.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t have been able to pursue my dreams without the love and support of my friends and family. Namely, my Mom, Brother, and amazing friends Shannon Garcia, Eron Johnson, Vanessa Marck, and Nicole Everard.
