We had the good fortune of connecting with Diane Ferraro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diane, what do you attribute your success to?
Save the Storks was formed in 2012 with a mission to help empower and give hope to every woman in an unplanned pregnancy. We provide our partners, pregnancy resource centers and churches with support, expertise and a network to help encourage, equip and connect women to resources. We want women and men to know that they are not alone in an unplanned pregnancy.
I believe the most important factor behind the success of Save the Storks is our love and compassion. We desire to change the conversation around the pro-life movement from a political, combative approach to one that is supportive, informative and loving. We believe that all life has value.
Save the Storks is on a mission to make abortion unnecessary in our lifetime. It is through our love and compassion, with God’s blessing, that I believe has led us to be successful in changing the conversation around abortion and empowering women.
What should our readers know about your business?
Save the Storks is a compassionate, hopeful, youthful, empathetic, gritty and innovative non-profit organization. By this, I mean that we offer a fresh perspective on the pro-life movement, we are non-judgmental and authentic, and we are bold. We take risks to find solutions that foster life because we believe our work is critical. We are optimistic and believe that change is possible! Just reflect on the recent Supreme Court ruling on Roe V. Wade. Our Save the Stork “Stork Buses” are custom, innovative mobile medical units that offer excellent care and compassionate support with state-of-the-art medical clinics. We offer free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds and STI testing. We give women access to quality healthcare no matter where they are.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our organization is based in Colorado Springs, and we often have visitors come in for a day or two to tour our office and have strategy sessions. We always start with a drive or hike through Garden of the Gods. Such an iconic, natural wonder that should be on everyone’s bucket list. A trip to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is another must. Be sure to feed the giraffes romaine lettuce – purchased from the handlers – when you visit, and then take the gondola to get a bird’s eye of view of the entire zoo and the surrounding landscape. Oh, and the elephant and hippo exhibits are such a treat!
Colorado Springs is becoming a foodie destination, which makes our guests from big cities very happy. The Rabbit Hole is a local hotspot that is underground. I first discovered it when I noticed a chandelier hanging in a glass box on the sidewalk. I couldn’t help but go down the stairs find a fabulous dining spot that has a fantastic menu.
The Broadmoor is another place everyone needs to check out, for the history, the views and the restaurants. The Italian restaurant makes a delicious wood-fired, but if you really want to splurge go for the pre-fixe meal in the Penrose Room. A very special place for a corporate dinner or anniversary celebration.
A more affordable dining option is the Skirted Heifer in downtown Colorado Springs. Guy Fieri has featured it on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives several times. We regularly recommend this place to medical teams from pregnancy clinics when they come to town.
When visiting the Springs, try to make time to get up to Pikes Peak and Woodland Park, too. Eleven Mile State Park is also fabulous for a hike, rafting or fishing. Just be sure to have your fishing license handy.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would actually like to give a shoutout to all the women and men who have bravely come to seek information, resources and support when facing an unplanned pregnancy. More than 80% of abortion-minded women choose life after they see their unborn child on an ultrasound. This is a brave and courageous decision they are making to choose life! I am inspired every single day by those who are facing a difficult situation, whether that be financial or otherwise, to realize that they are not alone. And I literally wouldn’t be here, leading Save the Storks, if it wasn’t for my birth mom, Edie, who chose life for me, and then found a couple to adopt me. So a big shoutout goes to her, of course!
