We had the good fortune of connecting with Dionna Alverson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dionna, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I think about risk, I think about the opportunity that’s behind it.
One of the biggest risks I have taken on my journey to become a professional wedding photographer, was committing to this full time. Being a full time photographer means running all the behind the scenes such as legal aspects, contracts, payments, marketing, client relationships, and so much more! It’s more than just finding a cool couple and a pretty place.
But taking that big risk, has lead me to be here! So I continuously take risks in my business if I think it will be beneficial to my clients. This includes new poses, new locations, new props or artistic additions.
I want to continue to take those risks that maybe be weird, may be away from the “trend” or status quo to give my clients a unique and different experience!
Taking the risks, big or small, leads to huge opportunity’s! Some of these opportunities including learning a new style, some are opportunities for growth and development both personal and business, but regardless, the risk/opportunity relationship is what keeps the creativity and passion flowing!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
With my company, Rogue Shutter Photography, my focus is always on the details, the candids, and trying something new to create a one of a kind experience, and photos for my clients that best represents them.
I’m most proud of the true connections and personal relationships I’ve built with my clients over the years. I truly want to be friends with my clients, and I’ve been blessed with meeting so many amazing people, and hearing so many unique stories.
Getting to where I am today has been a four year journey that started with an absolutely empty knowledge base of the things that go into running a business. But through many learning curves, the support of my team; Jasmine, Gabe and Taylor, we finally made it!
If there is one thing that I want the world to know about Rogue Shutter Photography, is that I am always up for the adventure, the challenge, or something a little “different”. We are all so unique and diverse, it’s important to celebrate, showcase, and appreciate the qualities we all poses. Here you are welcome, loved, and accepted. Regardless of race, size, sexuality or gender.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite places to hang out include RINO in Denver, for the hip city vibes and colorful atmosphere.
After indulging in the hustle and bustle, I would escape out to drive the peak to peak highway, or stop in evergreen to get some local Mac and Cheese at my favorite small town business.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Being supported by my team and business partner Jasmine Kitterman gives me such strength to take risks when needed, and their outside perspective always helps me to further grow.
