Meet Donnie Hennop | Owner and vintage camper restoration specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Donnie Hennop and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Donnie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My decision to start Colorado Vintage CamperS emerged from a blend of nostalgic passion and a mission-driven mindset. As noted on our About page, our journey began with “childhood memories of family camping trips in what we fondly called ‘caravans’,” and when we witnessed the growing popularity of vintage campers, we felt compelled to restore one—or two—and turned that hobby into our mission. We also recognized a significant gap in the industry: many folks were being sold sub-par work at inflated prices, particularly women who were being misled, so we committed to offering integrity, quality workmanship, and fair pricing—cornerstones of our business. In short, starting the business was about preserving the past, crafting the future, and serving our community with honesty and craft.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our slogan is: “Your Camper. Your Way. Repair. Restore. Rebuild.”
For us, it’s incredibly important that each client gets exactly what they want. We have the knowledge and expertise to guide our clients so their choices support the overall structural integrity and longevity of their camper. Vintage campers were built and designed a certain way, and we believe repairs and restorations should honor those original methods. These techniques are tried, tested, and proven, and our mission is to stay true to the authentic way of building a vintage camper.
Over the years, we’ve noticed a growing number of businesses in this industry offering subpar work at inflated prices. That realization motivated us to expand, ensuring that our customers receive structurally safe, high-quality campers (or mobile businesses) at fair and honest rates. We’re especially committed to protecting buyers—particularly women—who have been misled by poor assessments or shoddy workmanship. Integrity, quality, and affordability are the cornerstones of our business, and we take pride in delivering exceptional service with honesty and care.
Following this philosophy has helped us grow into who we are today. We want to be known for no-nonsense, upfront, honest service and a dedication to affordability without compromising craftsmanship.
Seeing the joy our restorations bring to our customers warms our hearts and fuels our passion for this unique work. We’re not in it to make a quick dime—our goal is to stay true to our craft. Because really, if you’re not going to do the job right, why bother doing it at all?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We are in the heart of a small mountain town community: Evergreen, Conifer, Pine Junction and Bailey. There are many local restaurants, breweries and arts (local) and craft shops. It is always fun walking through these old-town historic main streets, even if not looking to buy anything really.
An exciting day excursion to show our friends the mountains, is to visit Guenella Pass, Hoosier pass and down into Breckenridge. This popular ski town offers a free gondola ride up into the mountain, lots of shopping and good eats for a delicious lunch.
We would usually loop back on I70 through Georgetown, which is another little, quant mountain town. A stop in Idaho Springs ends our day trip at Beau Jo’s Pizza where we enjoy our company and the original ‘mountain pie’.
It does not matter what time of the year, the mountains are breathtaking with always a new spot to visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thanks to my wife for planting the seed by purchasing a vintage camper. What started as her spontaneous idea quickly became the inspiration behind Colorado Vintage Campers. That one purchase sparked our shared passion for restoring these timeless classics and ultimately led us to build a business around craftsmanship, nostalgia, and adventure.
