We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Amy Novotny and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Amy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business came about in a unique way. Earlier in 2018, I was hired by a world renowned photographer to travel the world with him and his partner from the Arctic to the Antarctic to coach him to keep him out of two major surgeries. I jumped at the chance to leave my job and try something new. When I finished my work with him in Antarctica, I decided to start my own business. I knew that I could have a greater reach and impact if I left a small clinic and began sharing my healing techniques not just nationally but also internationally. At the same time, I had become more skilled in photography and began that business as well. Now I work with clients through Zoom all over the world with my healing and coaching work and produce photos that inspire gratitude for our earth.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is about helping people all over the world who want to heal naturally by learning how to calm their nervous system and transform their existence. This method helps alleviate all types of pain, sleep issues, stress, anxiety and even the need for orthopedic surgeries. We meet through zoom and clients are coached on how to change their body position and breathing mechanics to elicit changes that are often not achieved with other healing modalities and traditional Western medicine. This has worked for clients who are scheduled for joint replacements, those who have ACL tears, rotator cuff tears or even back disc issues. I have one client, a retired psychologist, who is in her 70’s and was scheduled for a knee replacement in 2016. After a few sessions, she was out of pain and cancelled her surgery. She hasn’t had another injection or pain medication since before our work. Another client, a naturopath, tore his ACL, MCL and had minor fracture. He showed up in a brace limping and after one session, he stopped using the brace and after 4 more sessions, he was walking normally. He returned to tennis after 3 more sessions. No surgery was needed. This also works well in conjunction with mental health treatment to assist those with stress, anxiety and panic. I’ve worked with several business owners who are overwhelmed by anxiety, but they learn how to calm their body to be able to handle the stresses of life and business. Because I came from a clinical background, I had no knowledge of how to run a business and market myself. It was hard and I struggled. I learned along the way and realized that my most important assets were my authenticity and my ability to form good relationships based on the needs of others. Being around those who have a growth mindset also allowed me to discuss ideas about my business for feedback. Some of my deepest beliefs and values are life is a gift and we are given the ability to transform our lives, including our health.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since I’m very nature-oriented, I would take my friend to Wash Park to walk around the beautiful ponds under the big trees early in the morning. We might grab some lunch along Gaylord St in that neighborhood and go explore Roxborough State Park in the afternoon. Another day, we would head to the Rocky Mountain National Park for some hiking and wildlife photography of elk, deer, bighorn sheep and other critters. We might head into downtown Denver another day and grab food at City o City restaurant and maybe a show. One evening we would definitely head to a concert at Red Rocks. If it’s summer time, we would head out to Guanella pass and hike Mt Bierstadt but in the winter, we would go skiing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve had several influences along my journey. My coursework studies through the Postural Restoration Institute provided the impetus to start thinking about the body and breathing differently. This, alongside my desire to run the Boston marathon, and my self study of the fight or flight nervous system led me to develop the PABR method. I then read the book, Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, and realized that another way of life existed for those who owned businesses or became investors. That gave me the courage to not return to my W2 job and begin a business. Shortly after reading this book, I met and helped Robert Kiyosaki which opened more doors and led to meeting another mentor, Kyle Wilson, who was the business partner of the late personal development expert, Jim Rohn. I began speaking at Kyle’s mastermind events throughout the country which gave me a greater audience and a community to learn from other entrepreneurs.
