We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Eve Monrad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Eve, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I come from an artistic family and upbringing, and I really enjoy bringing my creativity into the field of Physical Therapy. When I was 9, I started dancing flamenco, which led me into an early life career as a performer and dance teacher. I studied at a professional flamenco dance school in Sevilla, Spain in my early 20’s and developed a curiosity for how the human body works. When I returned to the United States I decided to become a Certified Massage Therapist and after working in massage for several years I realized I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities of the body. I went back to school and obtained my B.S. in Kinesiology and then my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Going through PT school with two small children made me realize the importance of addressing pelvic health, and how it’s often the overlooked missing piece in your recovery.

One of my favorite metaphors I talk about with my patients is how our bodies are just like a super complex 10,000 piece puzzle. I believe in order to be a good rehab provider, we have to combine our knowledge of science, anatomy, and physiology, and use some creativity to figure out how to fit the pieces of your individual puzzle back together.

What should our readers know about your business?
After working in several outpatient physical therapy clinics focused on orthopedics and pelvic health, I decided to open my own business, Renew Pelvic Health, in July 2024. I have specialized in pelvic health physical therapy for over 5 years now, and I’m very proud of the high quality and truly integrative approach I am able to provide for my patients. I believe I’m able to provide exceptional care to people struggling with pelvic floor dysfunction and chronic conditions due to my own personal experience healing my own pelvic problems and the wide array of continuing education courses and conferences I attend every year.

At Renew Pelvic Health a treatment involves so much more than just some exercises or hands on treatment. Being a great pelvic health therapist includes listening to your whole story, diving into other underlying factors such as nutrition, sleep, trauma, stress, etc. that could also be impacting your wellness and recovery, and treating the whole entire body. Many people don’t realize that pelvic health is connected to so many other areas of the body, such as your hips, low back, feet, jaw, reproductive health, gut health, and your nervous system! For example, one of the deepest muscles in the pelvis is also a hip muscle that can refer pain to the hip, sacrum, low back, and even bladder. I love to combine manual treatments such as trigger point dry needling, cupping, and massage for immediate relief, paired with very specific homework to set you on the right path towards recovery and getting you back to what you love.

Running a business and prioritizing your health is definitely a challenge. As a mother of two myself, I developed my passion for pelvic health while going through my own pelvic floor rehab. I learned so much about the small things we can incorporate every day to stay healthy and keep moving, and I try to convey that to all my patients. I understand the importance of prioritizing treatments and making the most out of your sessions. You will not leave a session feeling overwhelmed with 20 new exercises, rather I make sure we find functional homework that you can actually add into your daily routine that is directly related to what you want to get back to. Whether you want to play with your kids, or you want to run marathons and do crossfit, I can help!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Lafayette is such a fun small town! I would take them into downtown Lafayette and walk around all the little shops, check out the local street sculptures, and definitely stop for some coffee and chocolates at Stam, or maybe a margarita and some amazing Mexican food at Teocali. Then I would get out of the city and go up to the mountains. We love to go up to Alma, off the beaten path of all the Summit County resort areas, and enjoy just being out in the quiet of nature. A couple favorite spots in Alma are the local bakery (The Bristlecone Bake Shop) and South Park Saloon. There are also lots of wonderful local festivals throughout the year.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my wonderful partner Shawn. We’ve been together for over 18 years and he has always supported me and encouraged me to do more. He has owned his own business for decades and has always believed in my ability to run a successful physical therapy practice, even when I doubted myself.

I’d also like to acknowledge the amazing support from Renegade Motherhood, a networking group for moms in business that I have been a part of for over 2 years. The founder, Jen Morris, is creating an amazing group dedicated to lifting up mothers and supporting each other in business, because we do business differently as moms. As a solopreneur it’s been extremely important to have a group of other moms in the same situation to bounce ideas off of and just feel supported instead of alone in business.
