We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. John Mrazek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. John, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I stumbled across the need for a part-time Executive Pastor (XP) service during a conversation with a Pastor who thought he needed a full-time staff member.

When he asked when he could hire an Executive Pastor I answered that he needed to add 1,000 more people to his church of 500 for three reasons. The three reasons were: #1: The salary is much like his salary and you needed around 1,500 people to cover the salary.

#2: There were also other staff members that he needed more than an XP at this point

#3: Lastly, there were issues with taking the hand-picked staff that he currently leads directly and giving them over to an XP to lead. In a church of 500, the staff is bonded to their pastor and that closeness started to dissipate when a church grew to something north of 1,000.

After I explained these issues to him, he promptly said “It sounds like I need a part-time XP” and SharedXP was born! I left that meeting and promptly called several of my XP peers and asked their opinion about the viability of a part-time, concierge-type service and they all encouraged me to look deeper into what it would take to launch the service

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
SharedXP frees up pastors and non-profit leaders from leading the business side of their organizations so that they can care for the people that they were called to serve. It has been my experience that non-profit and ministerial leaders have not been taught how to lead a small business or interact with business people who service their organizations. SharedXP collects and integrates best-practice systems, processes, and policies into non-profits and ministries so that they can maximize the effectiveness of their donor dollars. SharedXP is unique in that the coaches are both pastors first and business experts second. Ministries and non-profits are very different from for-profits and hiring a typical business consultant will not be as effective as engaging SharedXP’s pastor/business coaches. We excel at finances, HR, operations, programs, donor recruitment and maintenance, and strategic planning in a non-profit/ministry format. And, we also serve for-profits too!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Breakfast at Snooze on North Academy, a hike up 7 falls, Lunch at Front Range BBQ, a tour of The Garden of The Gods, and Dinner at Wok In, Walk Out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I will dedicate my shout-out to my very good friends Rick Clapp, Dr. Jim Russom, and Garvin McCarell
