We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth June and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
“Work for someone else. You’ll be happier and less stressed working for someone than trying to own a business.”

Advice like that, although it may work for others, never worked for me. I always knew working for someone else was never for me; I went through countless amount of jobs all throughout my teens and early 20s and the rebel in me never enjoyed being managed by others and having limitations of my income. Being able to have control of my own business, make my own rules and policies, have creative control of my branding, have infinite amount of income potential – to me, all of that beats working for someone else! In my mind, I’ve always told myself, “if they can do it, why couldn’t I?!”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Doing what I do isn’t easy. As a single mother and business owner, I have a lot on my plate and trying to find a balance between entrepreneurship and life outside of that can be challenging, but I have found that merging my personal life a little bit into my professional life and vice versa has helped keep things less chaotic and more manageable for me. It also helps the people in my life feel included and gives my clients more of a peek into who I am outside of work, and I love that I can share these experiences with them all.

I created June Beauty to educate and introduce my clients to high-quality beauty services in a more relaxed environment than high-end salons. Luxury, high-quality beauty services deserve to be attainable to everyone without feeling intimidated by the prices or the type of environment they walk into. My experience in this industry has taught that uplifting and supporting others can be a powerful force that causes a ripple affect out to others, and my clients deserve to know that they are cared for and are given the best services possible without breaking the bank or feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome.

It is my mission to educate every single client and give them greatest, most comfortable services because I believe we all deserve that – whether it’s the first appointment or the thousandth. With this company, I want to represent the diversity and unity in anyone and everyone who wants to feel amazing in all aspects of their lives, and look fierce while doing so!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I grew up in Denver, so there are countless places I would drag my friends around to see and experience for a day! To start off, I’d bring my bestie to Sloans Lake to watch the sunrise off a bench facing east on Sheridan and 17th. It’s magical. Then I’d hit up some of my staples – breakfast at Watercourse, then comic book shopping and coffee at Mutiny on South Broadway, then hunt some good vinyl records down at Wax Trax and grab a slice of pizza and a beer at Benny Blancos next door. What a day! 🙂

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This shoutout goes to every single person in my life who has given me any sort of advice or guidance in regards to entrepreneurship and big life decisions. The people who have supported me through some of the hardest times of my life and stuck through to share some of the best times of my life with me. My mother, my brothers, my sister in laws, my 3 closest friends, my business mentors and coaches, and especially my daughter Emilia. You have all individually guided me and supported me and encouraged the best parts of me to shine and I wouldn’t be who I am now without any of you.
