We had the good fortune of connecting with Ella Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ella, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I grew up with having the biggest entrepreneur spirit about me. I just knew that my “big girl” job was going to be working for myself. It all started from when I was a younger kid – I picked up a camera when I was 15 and ever since I had this pull that encouraged me to make it into a full time gig that I could document people’s life events the big and small ones for a business. I think having your own business can take a lot of guts and courage that can be challenging and I’ve always been one to take on challenges so it was one of those things that I felt passionate about!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have this tattoo on me that says “Creator” it can have many meanings but one that inspires me is that creativity comes from the creator. I’m the author of my story. I can be the author of creating a story of people through imagery. I love being able to document a timeless moment in just one singular photo that will last a lifetime.
In any career there’s always challenges that we’ll face, but what has led me to overcome any kind of fear is knowing that I’m exactly where I am supposed to be doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. I feel like this career chose me and in the best way possible. I have so many creative friends that have pushed me to be where I am now. I found it being so crucial to surround myself with beautiful likeminded people that support my vision. I want people to know that you can truly be whoever you want to be and the creator of your own story of building a life you’ve always dreamt of. It’s not easy, it never is. If you are willing to conquer the struggle its so worth it!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is like the hardest thing for me to do because I’m so indecisive!
I love being outdoors, trying new coffee shops, discovering new music and thrifting.
My favorite place to hike is RMNP, of course. Dream Lake, Bear lake all those cool spots. I love the area of Estes and the cute small business around town. This sounds silly but I’m truly a girl of simple taste and if there’s a waffle house around, I’m going! Plus where I’m originally from we don’t have them there. Really into thrifting and so are my friends! Kouture consignment, and peak thrift are my favs! I love Death & Co for a cocktail spot and the RiNO district I can get down with when it comes to a social scene and seeing all the cool graffiti.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I mean where do I even begin.. I feel like I have so many people in my life that have supported me in my dreams and creating my story. I will say my mom has been my biggest advocate, she’s always pushed me to follow my heart and go after a life that is worth creating. She’s the biggest inspiration when it comes to literally doing anything at any age and being able to set your mind to it. My best friend, Addy… I feel like most of my inspiration and creativity comes to me learning from her! We worked together and I didn’t really enter my “artist era” if it weren’t for me working for her business.
