We had the good fortune of connecting with Elwin Kline and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elwin, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Geek 2 Outdoors – Hunting is all about stepping away from computer screens, smart phones, television screens, and all the like, and encouraging people to experience appreciate of nature and beauty that is readily available to us, especially in Colorado.

Throughout the book, folks are introduced to learning about the benefits and positive experiences gained through hunting and other outdoor pursuits, supplemented by other healthy lifestyle choices that include fitness, mental wellbeing, nutrition, and more.

Using hunting a delivery vehicle for such a pursuit, together, we can keep this vital way of life alive and strong, for ourselves and for the next generation to come with our sons, daughters, other family members, and friends, who will face significant challenges in doing so. Public land access to hunting is shrinking, urban sprawl is rapidly expanding and destroying natural habitat at an alarming rate, and so many other factors that are diminishing the outdoor way of life.

This book is also an autobiography of a father, a veteran, an obesity survivor, and so much more.

By picking up this book and getting some ideas in order on how you can make a change within yourself, your family, or the community as a whole, is an incredibly positive step in the right direction to enjoying all the beauty and wonder this world has to offer through actual human eyes and not through only computer screens, for this generate and the next.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Professionally, I have been an Information Security Professional for over a decade and as such, I am generally in a seated position for the vast majority of the day.

A few years back, after 6-months of pulling 12-hour night shifts as a Network Defender, surrounded by computer monitors, sitting in a chair, while simultaneously working on my Masters Degree in Cybersecurity… I found myself transitioning from screen to screen to screen. From cellphone, to work, to doing school at night/early mornings, to watching TV shows with my family.

That is where the Geek 2 Outdoors idea was born.

I took up archery, hunting, ice fishing, tried snowboarding and skiing, did some 14’ers, and more.

As time went forward, I wanted to share this journey with people who may be in similar situations that I was in. Inspire folks to get up, get outside, and enjoy what the world has to offer – beyond what’s presented within liquid crystal displays.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In fair weather, the rifle/archery range would be at the top of my list. Thankfully, Colorado offers plenty of opportunity for this pursuit.

Winter time, ice fishing and small game hunting offers not only a great social platform to connect with someone in-person and not virtually, as well as great exercise and basking in the appreciation of nature and beauty found only in the great outdoors.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank the amazing support system I have in my life that has empowered me to write this book. My wife Amanda, holding down the home front while I pursue my dreams, and my daughters Ava and Lina, who make me want to be better, do more, and push harder every day.
