We had the good fortune of connecting with Larry and Kyndra Georgeson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Larry and Kyndra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We started GeorgesonStyle so we could gain greater control of our work/life balance- from managing the daily, creative design/build business to being able to spend quality time with our 2 kids. We love the flexibility of owning our own business- we work hard and a lot of weekends and late nights, but we can also decide when to take a random day off to hang out, go skiing, or head out on a 3-day weekend.
What should our readers know about your business?
We are a husband and wife design/ build firm that focuses on residential and tenant finish in the Denver area. We met 25 years ago while both working at a Knoll furniture dealership, where I was a designer and Larry was a project manager. Over the next 20 years, I kept on my design path and Larry went into education. After the adoptions of our children, we decided we wanted to start our own company. Larry went to work for a construction company, focusing to obtain his General Contracting license and GeorgesonStyle was born. GeorgesonStyle is unique because we have both the Interior Design and GC divisions under one roof. This enables us to better control how the projects flow, and jobs run much smoother. Clients have appreciated this service instead of having to hire 2 separate companies or a homeowner having to make their own design decisions. Within the last few years, we have also started an online, curated design boutique called Kyndred, with home goods and items we have sourced and that we often use in the spaces we design.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, we might be a little biased, since we live in the Central Park neighborhood, but our first stop would be the Stanley! The restaurants, the shops, being about to sit and hang out, even now in these more difficult times- it is a great place to be. We would then head to Crested Butte for a few days out of town, in the summer to hike and enjoy the cute downtown area, or in the winter to ski! Any time of year there is magical, and the Secret Stash pizza is a must stop when in town.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are 2 people who stand out the most in our minds that have helped us become who we are, in the business that we are in. Kirk Cochran, with Division One Construction, has helped both of us in our careers, but especially Larry-he was instrumental in his path to becoming a GC and showed how to be successful with kindness and integrity. For me, Kyndra, my first boss out of college was Chuck Pell. I moved to CO alone, and Chuck was there not only as a mentor in design but as a father-figure helped me not run back to Kansas and to not give up. His humor and strength (and demand of perfection) helped guide me to be where I am today.
