We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Emily, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I love seeing the joy on people’s faces when they bite into one of our cakepops. Our slogan is “Making Tastebuds Happy One Cakepop at a Time” and that is what we strive for. There is nothing that brings me more joy in getting to play a role in someone’s special day whether that be their wedding, baby or bridal shower, birthdays, house-warming gift, thinking of you and many other occasions. For me, the success of my brand is when customers love our product, orders more and tells others about us. I love getting to take someone’s vision of what they are wanting and making it a reality as an edible, scrumptious treat.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a mother/daughter business who makes and sells cakepops in the Colorado region. A cakepop is packed with explosive flavors that tingles the tastebuds and is a scrumptious bite on a stick. We offer a variety of flavors as well as seasonal flavors and specialized cakepops for every holiday. Our cakepops are one-of-a-kind as each homemade cake is paired with its own, handmade from scratch, delicious icing. We use quality ingredients and decrease the sugar so you can have more and not feel guilty! Each cakepop is specially decorated and comes individually wrapped with a gold tie. The idea started when a birthday cake I made for my dad sunk in the middle while baking in the oven. The cake still tasted good; however, we could not decorate it. We did not want to waste it so we froze the cake. A few days later, my mom stumbled across an article on how to make cakepops and we thought “Why not?!” After a lot of trial and error, we handed out samples to friends and family. They loved our cakepops and suggested we start selling them, and eventually a business was born. To this day, Snickerdoodle is one of our most popular flavors. We began the journey that eventually led to the start of the business three years ago. Owning your own business is not a piece of cake (no pun intended 😊)! There is a lot that goes into running a business such as creating a business plan, paying taxes, marketing the product and so much more. In regard to the baking side of the business, it has not been an easy journey. Cakepops can be very unpredictable especially when you are working with chocolate. We have experienced a lot of mishaps and rejects. However, through a lot of trial and error and perseverance, we created a product our customer’s love.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love when friends come out to visit Colorado especially if it is their first time out here. Their reaction of seeing our majestic Rocky Mountains is priceless and makes me so grateful to get to live in this beautiful state! In Loveland, there is a fun coffee shop, Colorado Coffee, that has the best cinnamon rolls. We would hang out there for the morning enjoying the coffee, cinnamon rolls, and the mountain view. I will always take them up to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. The drive up there is so beautiful especially during the Fall. I love the quaint town of Estes Park and walking down the main street visiting all the little shops while breathing in some fresh, mountain air. Depending on what time we are there, we will either go to Notch Top for a mouth-watering brunch or Mama Rosa’s for a delicious Italian supper. We always top off our visit with a caramel apple from Laura’s. It’s also a bonus if you see elk in town or in the park itself. We may also spend the day in Denver at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and check out their latest exhibit and catch an IMAX show. Another fun place is touring Celestial Seasonings in Boulder and experiencing their peppermint room and drinking tea samples. Do you see a theme…beautiful scenery and tasty food!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! My mom, who is also my business partner, has been a huge cheerleader in my business endeavors. She is the flavor chemist behind our recipes and the chocolate guru when it comes to decoration. She is not only my mom but one of my best friends, and I am so thankful I get to run my business side-by-side with her.
