We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Jacobson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am a two-time entrepreneur, and my thought process was a bit different each time. The first time, in 2017, I realized that I had developed very niche expertise in an area hardly anyone else was serving. I saw a unique opportunity to provide training and services to offices around the country who had a real need for what I was offering. The second time, it was more of a calling. My personal life was profoundly impacted by finding a nervous-system regulation modality called Neuro-Somatic Intelligence. It was so transformative for me, I knew I needed to get certified myself and move into the coaching space to share it with others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a neuro-somatic transformation coach, serving clients both 1:1 and in group containers. I teach my clients how to communicate a message of safety to their nervous systems so that they can show up in the world as their most authentic selves. Nervous system regulation is getting an increasing amount of attention in the health and wellness zeitgeist, but I have found that there aren’t a lot of answers out there regarding how to achieve it. Neuro-Somatic Intelligence (NSI) has answers.

Becoming certified in NSI–something so new and relatively unknown–was exciting. I’m an incredibly curious person by nature, so learning all the material was more fun than it was work, despite the fact that it was a total shift from what I had done professionally for the prior 22 years. However, the nature of offering an emerging modality certainly has its challenges. It can be hard to explain to people what I do and teach, and how profoundly it can change someone’s way of showing up in the world. The work almost seems too easy, but that’s also what is so exciting about it. I’ve learned that the best way to get people on board is to get them to experience the magic of nervous system tools; once they see for themselves just how quickly they can shift out of a state of dysregulation, they almost always want more. And I love watching my clients transform in ways they never thought possible.

Being a nervous system coach is like being a personal trainer; but instead of helping my clients strengthen their bodies, I help them strengthen their nervous systems. I provide tools and exercises and drills to increase their capacity to handle life. In the same way that strength training allows you to build muscle and lift heavier weights over time, nervous system training builds your capacity to endure stressors.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would make the rounds in historic Downtown Littleton, visiting all my favorite spots! First, we’d hit Dirt Coffee for a caffeinated delight crafted by one of their empowered neurodivergent employees; I love this shop and it’s mission! Then we’d wander down to independent bookstore, Spell Books, to pick up a new read or attend one of their writing workshops. For lunch, we’d grab a small bite at Denver Beer Co.’s latest location, hopefully grabbing a spot by their street-corner firepit. For dessert, we’d get a scoop (or two!) of Salted Oreo at The Little Man Ice Cream Company’s 10th metro-area location. I’d then skip across Main Street to 5280 Crystals to indulge in a new treasure for my collection. Finally, we’d end up at The Lazy Greyhound for a craft cocktail and hopefully linger until closing time. It’s too cozy in there to ever want to leave!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my success to my friend, coach, and mentor, Michele Waterman. I also wouldn’t be as held and supported in my journey were it not for the community provided by The Nova Global and its visionary founder, Melissa Bauknight.
