Meet Eric Gil | Educator, CEO of Strong Branch Learning

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Gil and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I love teaching, it my purpose on this earth, it is one of my few natural skills. When I recognized that my role as a classroom teacher was financially unsustianable for my family, I had to make the choice to take a risk and build something where teachers are valued and the results are impactful. This allowed me to still help kids instead of switching professions.

What should our readers know about your business?
We are an online tutoring business, specialized to help students gain skills on “how to learn”. Our students are coached to become independent learners by leveraging resources at school, online, and at home. When tutoring students on the concepts they struggle with, we guide them to explore the math on their own. Students go on to see the meaning of the formulas they will be tested on, and thus perform better on exams.
When I realized my specialty in education, supporting students who struggle with confidence to learn, my success grew as a business owner. At first it was easy to fall into the mold of many companies, looking to help kids get through a single test or assignment. It was important to lean into what our parents appreciated about what we were doing naturally, over my own preconceived notions being propped up by ego. It took a lot of mentorship, education, and reflection to arrive at what I was put on this Earth to do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Mesa County is an outdoor recreation paradise. We go up to top of the Grand Mesa, to see the weather change in a 45 minute drive. The Colorado Monument is a beautful vantage point of the city, that captures the Color-Red lanscape which our Colorado state is named after. We go to Fruita to experience the small town experience that is charmed by the amazing buisinesses that serve the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out the Business Incubator here in Grand Junction Colorado. They have been the guiding force for my business and so many more here on the Western Slope of Colorado. They have an amazingly dedicated staff that love the work of helping business start and/or grow. Their talented volunteers are a testament to their fantastic culture.
