Meet Erin Taylor, RN | Nurse, Dietitian, Mushroom Medicine Woman, Author, Publisher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Taylor, RN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The mushrooms ‘found me’ at the tail end of my nursing career, when I was in severe burnout and severe denial. Around this time, one of my mentors guided me to “follow the threads of joy”. Also during this time, I started to question if driving everyday to a ‘job’ that sucked every bit of my soul out of me was ‘it’ for me in life…I was exploring alternative healing modalities like meditation coaching, hot yoga, shamanic sound practices, Reiki for a future career path beyond nursing. My now late father-in-law had this “crazy” idea of digging a room under his house to grow gourmet mushrooms and sell them to local chefs. This idea fizzled out for him, but it sparked something within me I had never felt before. It felt like a surge in giddy kid energy excited for a new adventure! I started noticing shiitake mushrooms at the grocery store…noticed they were 3x the price of all the other gourmet mushrooms. I started to ask “Who is growing those mushrooms?!”. My husband, who took mycology in college, looked me in the eye and said, “You can do this as a business”. And the rest is history.
My business started out with curiosity around growing gourmet mushrooms, so I found a local internship and learned how to do that. There, I met my dear friend and fellow shroom enthusiast, and I learned about and how to grow all kinds of mushrooms.
I started a gourmet mushroom kit business, which was a huge success, but it wasn’t the business model for me.
Then it evolved into women’s psilocybin retreats here in Colorado, which was also a success, but again, I wasn’t reaching enough people with the message of the mighty mushroom.
I “followed the threads of joy”, decided to take a copywriter course, following the footsteps of 3 generations of writers/authors (all men) behind me in my family.
I wrote a book called “A Mystic’s Guide To Microdosing Mushrooms”. I teach you how to safely start microdosing, how to integrate for lasting transformation, and how to grow your own psilocybin mushrooms at home THE EASIEST METHOD possible.
I recently published my website https://www.shroommystic.com.
Thanks for looking!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The mushrooms are booming right now, no doubt, especially here in Colorado. That’s what they do!
I empower the people to become sovereign and safe in their own healing journeys.
Safety first, always.
My shroompreneuer journey has been 100% intuitive, following the threads of joy…listening to my body’s energy and intuition.
So far, it hasn’t let me down…
I’m super proud to be an author and publisher!
And to be the first woman in 4 generations of writers and authors in my family.
I’m proud of who I am becoming, and the work I have done to get here.
And yet, I feel my journey is just beginning…
I’ve learned everything is easier when I have community and an intentional relationship with a Higher Power, especially when healing from childhood trauma and complex PTSD.
I’m not a guru.
I’ve worked inside the medical system for over 2 decades as a registered nurse and a registered dietitian and have been beyond disappointed and maddened by the pharmaceutical agenda aka the AMA (American Medical Associaciation) purchased by big Pharma in the 90’s.
I have been majorly let down (in a life-threatening kinda way) as a dual medical professional, as a family member, and as a patient by the Western medical “health”care system…
I have struggled with a lot of the same issues most people, especially Americans, struggle with everyday: depression, anxiety, addiction, burnout, untreated trauma…
I just share what has worked for me, what is now backed by science, and what has been practiced by our ancestors for millennia.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely Meow Wolf. Take a kid there if you have one. Can’t beat a show at Red Rocks, can you? Explore the wonderful food offered in Denver. Check out the local farmers markets and support the local mushroom farmers and businesses! Take a trip to Estes Park and check out the Stanley Hotel. Ha!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It has to be my husband of 16 years this year Cory!
He has been by my side, my biggest fan and my biggest cheerleader throughout our entire relationship, and especially during this adventure as a shroompreneuer.
The mushrooms, being the apex connectors that they are, actually connected Cory and I years before we even met.
Naturally, my journey with mushrooms has been a wild one, and one which has saved my life.
Before the mushrooms, I was surviving, at best, with severe PTSD.
The mushrooms have allowed me to look at the parts of me that were lost, forgotten, exiled, shamed and shunned. It has been a rough and beautiful road, and Cory has been there the entire journey, as a pillar of strength and support. Cory has always believed in me…sometimes even more than myself.
Thank you Cory!
I wish for everyone to have in their lives a Cory…who makes it feel safe, loved and supported in a very triggering world.
