Meet George Baines | Entrepreneur, Author & Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with George Baines and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi George, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process was that everyone should experience what I had growing up. That is the taste of homemade pound cake. At a time when people were looking for all natural, artisan cakes, with less ingredients, my grandmothers pound cakes was the perfect product.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ll never forget, I had a meeting with my guidance counselor in college. I said I’m in trouble, I don’t know what what major to pick, I came in as a law and justice major, but I could barely say awake in the class. It would put me to sleep in 5mins. She said there are two fields that are going to be real big, English and MIS. My choice was clear as a bright sun shiny day! I picked M.I.S because I was not writing anything and I couldn’t spell to save my life. I didn’t know what M.IS meant or what it entailed that is how I got into the IT field and never looked back. I traveled all over the country, working on IT projects, setting up data rooms and networking warehouses and buildings, I had a lot of fun. In 2012 I opened up Mom Mom’s Coffeehouse which I was very proud of. It was a challenge and work fulltime, however I managed because that was a everyday thing for me in the IT field, the sky is always fallen…. What I learn is to always gather the information and never panic and think clearly on solutions. After shutting down Mom Mom’s coffeehouse and the Passing of my Mom, I went back to work as an Engineer for Comcast 2017. on a Friday, a woman called me and asked if I want a job which was in Denver. I said no-way I’m not moving to Colorado. All weekend I asked myself what the heck am I doing in NJ. That Monday I told her yes, I had 2 interviews and had to be in Denver in 2 two. I called the bank and told them to take my house, told family and friend to take what they wanted and got on a plane to Denver with 3 suitcases and my golf clubs. Here I am 5 years later with a growing pound cake business, children’s book author and successful IT career. My brand is more than the taste pound cake, its about family relationships, traditions, memories and feeling we have over that special desert. That is one of the reason I wrote the book to show, teach and remind children of those times.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I do that all the time.
Depending on how healthy they are, I take people to the Manito Incline on Saturday, Then in the evening we will do the Crawling Crab.
Sunday we will pickup some lunch and bring to Lookout mountain and chill.
Monday we will drive to the Royal Gorge and the mile long narrow drive. find a local Bar with good food there are so many.
Tues chill
Wednesday Drive thru the mountains up to Breckenridge, find some spot to eat!
Final days I usually play it by ear…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Over the years, I have certainly been encourage and motivated by many people. I could never name them all, they know it.
