We had the good fortune of connecting with Greg Terch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Greg, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
While working on my doctorate in architectural engineering, I came to the realization that teaching and researching was not going to fulfill my need for creativity and art. Despite the fact I loved teaching I knew I would not be happy over my lifetime. So, I made the difficult decision the leave CU Boulder and open a design-build firm. I had worked every summer in the trades to pay for school. I observed the huge disconnect between the architect and the builder. The architect was creative and designed beautiful buildings but most of them did not understand construction. On the other hand, the builder was a master at construction but lacked vision and an appreciation of the art in architecture. This experience was the foundation of my desire to be an artist, an engineer and then bring my art to life. The result is over 20 years of working with people to bring their vision into reality. It is truly a unique business because It involves people’s most expensive and passionate purchase. We are creating something together that is both a piece of art and the foundation of family experiences and memories. I have truly been blessed to find my dream job and then been entrusted by my clients to design and build their home.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The blaring difference that sets us apart is our services. We are one of very few firms versed in architecture, engineering, interior design and construction. The majority of projects constructed require the involvement of four separate firms. Our integration creates a streamlined process with much better communication, cost control and on-schedule projects. It has taken years of analysis and revision to our system of design-build but I truly feel we offer one of the best experiences in our industry.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a huge outdoor enthusiast and that is why I love Colorado. In the winter I would take my friend snowmobiling and skiing at one of our world class resorts. In summer it would be mountain biking, dirt biking or a day wake surfing on the lake. After that there is nothing better than sitting on a patio enjoying cocktails and dinner during one of Colorado’s amazing sunny summer days.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be the person I am without the love and support of my family. They instilled in me the values I guide both my personal and professional life. The other major influence was the military. There I learned honor, discipline and team skills I use everyday. I am also very thankful for the group of people I am lucky enough to call friends. They are the backbone and support group I have relied on for years. The last group that deserves so much credit and praise is my contractors. Without them, the quality and craftsmanship of my projects would not be the same.
