We had the good fortune of connecting with GRIMARD Charlotte and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi GRIMARD, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started my own business, I spend a long time thinking my offer through. My vision was to propose custom made jewelry that was both durable and affordable.
I knew that I wanted to propose something different, something unique, something that reflects a fusion between art and jewelry.
My idea was to find a way to involve my customers as well in the creative process and to make it something personal.
And to make sure that together we create a piece that they’ll keep forever.
Since there is nothing more personal and unique then our fingerprints, I created a kit to facilitate this collaboration between customer and artist.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One aspect that I think has been pretty crazy along my career is the importance of meeting the right people at the right time. Being openminded to meeting new artists and recognize new opportunities in this creative environment, can actually change your life.
I’m someone very enthusiastic, and I have always been open to try exciting opportunities that presented themselves to me. And that brought me places and helped me to meet people I would’ve never imagined possible.
Sometimes they would not have been my ‘first choice’, but somehow they felt right… and they lead to a natural flow in the unfolding of my career.
Along the way I learned various techniques working as an assistant for several different artists. At some point I was sculptor assistant for Anselm Kiefer. I loved learning from all their nuggets of knowledge and experience in several areas, until the day I felt the call to put my own signature in the world.
Following the steps Life invited me to take, molded me into the artist that I am today.
One who uses ‘molding’ to create unique pieces from nature & fingerprints.
I’m very proud to be the chef of my own jewelry atelier and to work with employees.
And I am happy to be able to offer the possibility to welcome apprentices into my atelier to transmit them my ‘savoir-faire’ and complete this circle.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
“Bienvenue chez nous dans la Drôme” Well, what can I say France is such a rich country when it comes to culture, history and culinary discoveries.
So I would probably take you visiting this wonderful area I live in, which is called the Drôme. I would wake you up in the morning to the smell of fresh coffee, fresh croissants and homemade marmelade. After we would leave to visit a nearby market where we would buy our lunch at my favorite local farmers. Then we drive through the violet wave of lavender fields to a small, luscious river for a delicious picnic. Did I tell you we would be having a fresh local rosé to go with the platter of various french cheeses? No worries, the olive trees will provide us the perfect shade for a little digestive siësta.
In the evening we will be dining in a small local restaurant that is on the hilltop of an old, medieval village.
Overlooking the surrounding mountains we will watch the stunning colours of the sunset fade away into the royal bleu of a starry night.
So when do you arrive?
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I think my shoutout goes to my biggest muse, Mother Nature. Since childhood I am amazed about Nature’s creations. But very early on in my creative process as an artist, I realized that my attempts to sculpt a reproduction of her work was just not ‘it’. Therefore I decided to start working with silicon to capture the ‘finesse’ and magnificence of Nature’s masterpieces. Even just going for a simple walk in Nature nurtures and inspires me.
She made me into the artist I am today and is my ultimate source of inspiration.
