We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly McCoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson my business had taught me is that you truly never stop learning & that anything is possible. I started my business right before the pandemic and felt defeated for quite some time. But I used those months of downtime to expand my business with trainings, really focus on what I wanted my business to look and feel like, and when we were able to reopen it was go time. Anything is possible if you want it!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My background originally started in the fashion industry. With an eye for detail, a love for creativity and the freedom to create, getting a degree in product development was a no brainer. However, after 5+ years being in the industry and becoming a single mom, i decided I needed a change. Something that allowed more flexibility but still utilized a lot of the natural talent I had. I struggled with melasma when I was pregnant and managed to get it somewhat under control on my own, so going back to school felt like the right path. After being in the industry for about a year I knew exactly what I wanted. While it wasn’t always easy, I knew I wanted to have my own business. I love that I get to decide what services I offer, how I do each facial or treatment and truly do what’s best for all of my clients. I only offer treatments I wholeheartedly believe in and enjoy doing. I’d love to show how diverse and flexible this industry is! It is forever evolving which makes room for so much growth and expansion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To be honest I am an introvert. Being that in service clients all day, my free time consists of being Home with my people. But, if I had to show a friend around I would absolutely go to Temecula wineries, downtown Temecula for some shopping, possibly go to Laguna beach for some of my favorite hidden beaches & hikes. There’s nothing like some good food and spending time outdoors

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Face First Beauty absolutely wouldn’t be what it is today without the love and encouragement of my family. Starting a business is scary, but having support, love and encouragement through hard times helps you keep on keeping on. I also completed a business training called Bosses in Beauty by Raya and absolutely contribute a lot of my success to that course.
