We had the good fortune of connecting with Hannah Basler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hannah, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
In the beginning of my business, I was young and in school and wanted to grow as fast as I could. I was booking everyone I knew and working as hard as I could to become a great photographer in the area. This did not last for very long, as I got burned out after about a year. I took off about seven months from social media and took significantly less sessions to live as a kid and enjoy my time with my family and friends. I found myself spending too much time working instead of being a kid like my age group. It has now lead me to know a great work life balance and not get burned out.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Hello! My name is Hannah Basler and I am a wedding and senior photographer based out of Lone Tree! I started this business 4 years ago, when I was 17. I started as a graduation project requirement, and never thought it would have grown this big. I have had a camera in my hand since I was little, but decided to try something new and try taking photos of friends and family. At first, it was really hard. I was really timid because I was so young, so I struggled to pose people and be assertive (I actually had a client after a session tell me this! It freaked me out so badly!). As I grew more and more through practice, I got better and am now confident and love how confident clients are in me. I also struggled with my age at first, people tended to not take me as seriously as some older photographers due to my lack of experience. It has gotten easier over the years, and I LOVE meeting new people and being able to bring people joy through photographs. I easily have one of the coolest jobs in the world! I believe in living life to the fullest and freezing the small moments along the way. I love providing this to clients and letting them enjoy the moment while I am capturing it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To start for breakfast, you have to go to The Perfect Landing at Centennial Airport. It is the cutest place to eat right on the runway so you can watch planes land and take off! Then, we would go to Colorado Springs, to go to the Penny Arcade and then go to Rudy’s bbq. We would have to make sure we also visit Bonnie Brae ice cream, one of the best places! I am a big golfer, so I love to play the golf course Commonground then go the beer garden nearby with the plane museum. We would also need to take a day to go to the mountains, and eat Beaujos pizza!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The reason I am so successful today is because of the mentor I had in high school named Molly. I had to complete a project in high school in order to graduate, and we had to have a mentor. I decided to try running a photography business. Molly (@forthewestandwildphoto on insta) was someone I put on my reach list for having as a mentor. I really wanted to learn from her, but I knew she was probably very busy and did not have time to help me. When Molly reached back out to me, it was quite the opposite. It seemed as though she was so excited to have the opportunity to help me, and she was eager to answer any questions I had. She even let me come on a session with her to see how she interacted with her clients. If it were not for Molly, I would not be here today!
