We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I believe that my work life balance has changed dramatically over the last year by pursuing my passion and changing careers in my 30’s. I had been working in the service industry as a server and bartender since I turned 18 and the work life balance in that industry can be draining over time. Never getting to spend holidays with family, working all hours of the night, sometimes not getting home until 3 or 4AM. I have always had a passion for the hair industry and finally got the opportunity to start school at Paul Mitchell The School Denver in February of 2022. I went to school 4 days a week and worked in the evenings and on the weekends the 13 months during cosmetology school. I have 3 children at home and tried my best to spend time with everyone as much as I could. Now that I’ve graduated and started my career, I’ve been very lucky to have found a salon that is home. I’m currently working at The Cutting Room in Wheat Ridge and have the freedom to choose my own schedule. This career change has fueled my passion and given me the tools I needed to be a great hairstylist, mom, and wife. I get to be behind the chair Tuesday through Saturday every week, during the daytime hours. I get to have evenings and Sundays with my family and that is a huge blessing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been behind the chair for just about 18 months and have put everything I have in to being the best I can be. I am so excited to be able to spend the rest of my career learning from so many other amazing artists.
I specialize in dimensional lived in color and blonding. I love doing a clean cut bob and think that beautiful hair can change someone’s life.
I think it has been pretty hard to get where I am, so far. I have had some road blocks along the way, but am learning every step of the way. I’ve just recently been diagnosed with ADHD as an adult and realized that I’ve always learned differently than others around me. Now that I know, I can adapt! (Definitely makes sense now!)
I think what I want everyone to know about me, is that no matter your past, no matter your age, that you can totally chase your dreams. I’ve made some big mistakes, but I get to live my dream now.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooh this is a hard one. I’m naturally an introvert, but can eat good food like nobody’s business. I really enjoy a good Mexican restaurant and a real margarita.
We have spent the last several seasons racing at Bandimere Speedway and can’t wait to see what the future holds for racing.
Any good book store. I could spend a whole day just browsing old books and chatting about what people are reading.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this article to my best friend and partner in life, Joey. He has helped me reach all of my goals in the last 6 years and pushes me to keep going every day. He is the reason I have been able to come this far and I can’t wait to continue to enjoy this life with him.
