We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Freeman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I view life as a gift. We’re on this earth for a short period of time, so why not make the most of it and do the things that bring you the most joy. For me, that’s living my passion of making vibrant and playful abstract art and it’s surrounding myself with people who also enjoying pursuing their passions.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m on a mission to inspire and uplift through bold colors and imaginative designs, crafted with high-quality materials and professional techniques. I’m most excited that I’ve made it this far as a professional artist. There are a lot of naysers in this world, but with the support of family, friends, and fans I’ve managed to keep on truckin’. I started out as a public health educator, but had a hard time finding my groove so one day when I saw my young daughters fully emersed in play making art, I knew I wanted this for myself, too. The squiggly road to get to where I am today has been frustrating at times (we all want the easy, straight path right -lol), but it forced me to lean into being patient with myself. It forced me to focus on what matters most. Going after your passion means taking chances, making mistakes, learning, adjusting, and growing. It’s all part of the process.
I want the world to know that we are born joy seekers, we get to chase after our dreams, and let the world be our playground for our souls. I use my art to express that sentiment and I hope others feel it, too.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Durango there is something for everyone. When my best friend visits I love filling up our time doing my favorite things. The perfect day would be waking up, brewing a cup of coffee to enjoy a relaxing start to the day on my front porch. We’d then get our running shoes on for a run around Animas Mountain and listen for the whistle of the morning trains heading out of town to Silverton. To refuel, we’d grab quick eats from Sage Fresh Eats – I love their Bahn mi Bowl. Then we’d grab my paddle boards and head to the river to keep cool during the afternoon summer heat. Once happy hour hits, we put on our mountain casuals and head to Pour House – they have the yummiest cocktails. Dinner would be a picnic on the river to people watch those boating the Animas rapids.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shoutout to my family – they are a source of my inspiration, the people who see me at my worst and best and love me through it all.
