We had the good fortune of connecting with Heidi Dunn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heidi, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Love. Family. Faith. I’ve built my little business on it. I am not the most popular as I’m pretty quiet, but I am the photographer who you can trust to be there when your crying baby needs held while you run after a toddler during a family session. I will be there when your senior needs to run back home and grab uniform parts for their once in a lifetime senior session. When your husband’s flight is delayed after a year deployment.
I pour my heart into my sessions.
My self esteem has always been a huge struggle over my life and helping high school seniors and families see their beauty as I see it, brings me joy. To watch an awkward grin turn into true laughs and smiles behind my lens is a blessing to me. We did not have pictures on our walls growing up. I remember how I felt when I visited homes with pictures in. I don’t want anyone to feel like that.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Dunn 4 You Photography is named after my married name and a play on my 4 kids. I always dreamed of being a photographer, but a mama of 4,well dreams got put aside for awhile. Now I am here and at a place in my life after being in business 7 years, I am ready to expand my services. I am a full service photographer, Most people want digital files of their photography session and don’t know why or let them sit on their computers. I guide your clothing selections and help plan locations. I help you order and deliver personally. I love being able to see kids’ excitement at their portrait being put on the wall. I feel like I’ll always be developing my brand. Owning your own business isn’t easy. Heartfelt Family and Senior Portraits is what I hope to be trusted and recognized for. I think my heart sets me apart from others. I do not time my sessions ever, but am able to get what I need to produce a beautiful gallery in a short amount of time on average.
I value education and doing the right thing as a small business. I am skilled and am always learning.
I attended New York Institute of Photography in 2015.
I earned my Certified Professional Photographer credentials in 2018.
I am a Nikon girl all the way.
I can use Off Camera Flash and handle any low light setting, photograph indoor events such as military homecomings and promotions, and enjoy using natural light to bring out the best in you and your family.
This was so hard for me to write as I am not a person to talk about my skills or what I offer. My hardest part? Marketing hands down!
I do know, if you book me, I will take care of you and your family or senior and make you feel special:)
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend lives with me (see shoutout).Ha the hubby that is:) If I had my childhood best friend here though?
I would take her to Rocky Mountain National Park so we could visit the beauty, see the wildlife, catch up in a hot tub with mountain views and margaritas:)
I’m sure my camera might just happen to be along:)
I would take her to see a few local popular landmarks as well, such as Garden Of The Gods, Painted Mines, Pikes Peak.
All the Colorado things:)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes I have 3 Shoutouts. My husband of 20 years is incredible. He calls himself the unpaid intern. He is with me through shooting, editing, delivery of images and the business side, all while holding down a full time job and being a husband and dad.
Thank you for your unconditional love! You’re the best!
My kids! I’m a mama of 4. 3 of which are grown who are always supporting and encouraging me. They are my inspiration and where my love for photography was born 26 years ago. I’ve spent many years photographing sports, dance and cheer and have a love for it because of them.
Thanks for being my models!
My local Photography group. Professional Photographers Guild Of Colorado Springs. Look them up!
Incredible education, support and talent there!
