We had the good fortune of connecting with J. Decorian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi J., why did you pursue a creative career?
My Dad and my Uncle Big Daddy were the two main reasons that made me pursue an artistic career. Growing up they both were DJ’s and my uncle was in a gospel quartet named the”Four Eagles” I knew I was destined to be a Recording Artist just by watching the way music made people feel. The way music would bring people together made me pick up a mic. I would tag along with my Dad to different events he was playing at and my Uncle was the DJ for every family function. I’m not talking about a phone and a speaker. either. These two people modeled who J.Decorian the Artist is today.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
People wouldn’t expect me to be a rapper which I feel like sets me apart because with some artist you can look at them and tell what type of music they do. With me on the other hand you can’t and usually people underestimate me until you hand me a mic. I’m most excited about expanding making things bigger . Bigger music, videos ,and shows. Also I’m excited because my project Cairo Baby: For the Love of Cairo Deluxe will be out around February March ish of 2026. Now when it comes to the question of what got me here today. I would say my Dad. He would be always encouraged me to do my music, he always believed in me because with him being a DJ he had a musical ear. On this journey many challenges have made me question should I even continue music when my dad passed I wanted to give it up. I felt like how could I do this and he is not here to see it. So I went into a depression for some time I wouldn’t go to the studio I wouldn’t drop. I wasnt in it. Then I had to pick myself up and realize this is my purpose and I have to do this.
I have learned to never let anything break me and to keep pushing and do what I do best and that’s me. I want the world to know I’m J.Decorian from Birmingham,AL the choir kid who grew up with music all around him. A kid who turned pain and triumph into musical bodies of work. The person that was doubted made it to be somebody. Also let the world know that my pain never got the best of me it elevated me and my craft. My Pen, and My Mic are my purpose and it’s not about the charts this is for the hearts. The people out there who are no different than me

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them Four friends kitchen for breakfast
Lunch would be Taco Selene a grey Mexican food spot.
At night we would go to Maggionos,
Eat at places like cheddars, Mexican food trucks. I love to cook so I make sure to cook for my guest. Also we would go down town to bars do fun things on the 16th st mall. Go up to lookout mountain. I would have to take them to Cirrus social club before we leave for a good little time

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to say thank you to all my choir teachers growing up Y’all helped mold me into the artist I am today. The techniques help me navigate the world of being an artist. Also thank you to all the people who have ridiculed me, looked down upon me, and tried to publicly humiliate me. I see y’all but guess what? Y’all are going to see me because this is not the end of the road y’all planned for me. It’s only up from here.
