We had the good fortune of connecting with Jae Jordan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jae, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always wanted to be an entrepreneur growing up. I didn’t know what kinda of business I would have, but even then I knew I wanted to work for myself. In July 2018, I was half way through my bachelors degree in fashion design when my school announced they were closing their doors at the end of the year. I had to make the tough decision not to go back to school. However, I wasn’t going to give up on my dreams so I had to find a way to continue my studies and perfect my craft on my own. Creating a fashion brand was my way of doing that. In January of 2019 I officially started my business, Jae Jordan, LLC.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a multifaceted being with many interests and skills, like most of us are, and I think my art reflects that. If you take a look at my first 3 collections, you’ll see that they all look different, yet they all are still a part of my own style. A few weeks ago I threw a fashion show for Jae Jordan and that has to be my proudest moment thus far. Not only did I have the privilege of showing all of my work over the past 3 years on the runway for the first time, but I also was able to produce the show myself with my vision. Has getting to this point been easy? Not at all. But I was able to overcome by staying focused on the art and the reasons why I started on this journey in the first place. Along the way I’ve learned so much, but the biggest lesson I’ve learned from this experience is the importance of managing you business finances. As an artist, I don’t want to think about that kind of stuff but I as a business owner, I have to. I want the world to know that even though I have accomplished so much in these past 3 years, this is only the begging for myself and for my brand.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely want to shout out my family, especially my sister, mom and dad. They have always supported my artistry and encouraged me to pursue my passions. Even when I doubted myself, they never did and I am forever grateful for their support.
