Meet Jamie Smith | Portrait and Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in the Midwest—specifically Iowa and Michigan—and that small-town, family-first upbringing has shaped so much of who I am today. Growing up in a place where community and connection were at the heart of everything really instilled strong family values in me. That’s a big part of why I’m so passionate about people and why I have a natural gift for making others feel seen, valued, and comfortable. It’s something that’s carried over into my photography—capturing real, meaningful moments and creating space where people can show up as their true selves.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Photography has always been more than a job to me—it’s a calling. I’ve been a photographer for over 16 years, and what truly sets my work apart is my ability to create connection. My goal isn’t just to take pretty pictures; it’s to capture people as they really are—authentic, relaxed, and beautiful in their own skin. I have a gift for helping people feel comfortable in front of the camera, and I believe that’s when the most meaningful moments happen.
My brand is built on trust, kindness, and intentionality. I only take on one client per day so that I can give them the best experience possible, from ideal lighting to emotional presence. I offer styling and location guidance to take the stress off my clients, and I approach every session with a mix of laid-back energy and heartfelt purpose.
Getting here hasn’t been easy. Like many creatives, I’ve faced seasons of burnout, self-doubt, and even had to take a step back due to health challenges. Coming back into the industry, I’ve had to rebuild—not just my business, but also my confidence and momentum. But what kept me going was the reminder of why I do this: to help people feel seen, known, and celebrated – and to preserve the memories that matter most. There’s something deeply meaningful about capturing a moment that becomes part of someone’s story for generations to come.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success doesn’t always look like hustle—it looks like alignment. When I stay true to who I am and focus on serving my clients with heart, everything else falls into place. I want the world to know that my brand isn’t about perfection—it’s about connection. It’s about capturing those honest, joy-filled, in-between moments that tell your real story.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When friends come to town, I love giving them a mix of beauty, fun, and a little bit of luxury. We’d start the day with coffee at Loyal Coffee—hands down one of my favorite spots. We’d spend time exploring Garden of the Gods (you can’t beat those views!), visit the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and maybe even take a stroll through the Broadmoor grounds just to soak in the charm and scenery. For dinner, I’d take them to Dos Santos for great tacos, margs, and a fun downtown vibe. I love blending nature, great food, and meaningful conversation—everything that makes this area feel like home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely. First and foremost, I have to thank my husband and kids—they are my biggest cheerleaders and constant sources of love and support. I truly couldn’t do what I do without them. I’m also incredibly grateful for my fellow photographers and creative friends who have encouraged me, shared knowledge, and reminded me I’m not alone in this journey. And of course, my extended family and close friends who’ve always believed in me, even during seasons of doubt.
Above all, my strong faith has been the steady foundation through it all. It’s what grounds me, fuels my purpose, and helps me serve others with heart and intention. I’m beyond thankful for the way God continues to guide each step.
