We had the good fortune of connecting with Jardel Lucas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jardel, what do you attribute your success to?
Certainly my differential and main reason for success in my work is being able to make dreams come true, taking a person’s idea from paper to reality, being able to transport the client’s mind to the tip of the pencil. This makes each job special and unique.
It is very important to pay attention and care in each work, and by doing a well-done illustration, you will be able to see in that client’s eye the pride of seeing the finished work.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been an illustrator for about 5 years, and I’ve been working professionally for 1 year and 4 months. I work with art commissions, paintings and caricatures. I believe that my main differential is knowing how to reproduce a client’s ideas well, being able to enter his mind and transport his plan into an art, this requires a lot of attention and patience, two important virtues for me. I’m an artist who values ​​the details a lot, a hair, a seam on the shirt, that makes me very proud of my work.

The journey has never been easy, I consider myself a fighter, without having a degree in the area, I have always dedicated myself to studying through videos, trial and error have always been my workmates.
In a country where you don’t invest in art, you have to work twice as hard to grow.

I feel it is very important to talk about art, to be an example and to show that it is possible to be an artist in Brazil, create your own path and inspire many young people. Today my goal is to grow professionally, conquer more spaces and be able to tell more people that it is possible, that it is feasible, that is priceless.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I’m a big fan of parks and outdoors, I would definitely take him to visit a park in Belo Horizonte, maybe Parque Municipal or Mangabeiras. But without a doubt, the main tour is to visit one of the stadiums here on a game day for Atlético Mineiro, it is an indescribable sensation, necessary for anyone who passes through Belo Horizonte.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I didn’t have teachers in my training as an artist, but I have great friends who traced this path of evolution, exchange of ideas, tips and mutual support with me. I highlight the Brazilian illustrator Guilherme Freitas, who has a YouTube channel called Brush Rush, clearing up many doubts and helping in the artistic evolution of many people. Personally, I mention a trio of illustrator friends I met through football, and also through my favorite team, Atlético Mineiro. They are Will Rios (Comics Artist), André Fidusi (Graphic Design) and Calvet Arts (Illustrator), with them I was able to evolve a lot, exchanging ideas, inspirations and direction. I am very grateful to have great illustrators with me.
