We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jason, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started out working in corporate America, making good money, but ultimately I wasn’t happy. I was happy with the money, I was happy with the people I worked with, but I think it was the lack of control I had in my destiny (income, time off, flexibility, freedom). I realized that the life I want wasn’t going to come from a series of promotions and hard work for another company. I wanted freedom over money, and going into business for myself gives me complete freedom. Freedom for massive failure, and freedom for massive success…
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a professional wedding photographer, there is a ton of competition out there, including everyone with their smartphones. My goal is to create dramatic recreations of the scene to give a unique way to remember their special moments using techniques no smartphone can duplicate. I spend a lot of time learning (taking courses etc) new techniques and ideas to set our experience apart. Having a fun and relaxed atmosphere is just as important as the amazing photos and I strive to make that moment special.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
You got to check out Red Rocks Amphitheater! A beautiful natural theatre lined by red rocks that were once said to have been inhabited by dinosaurs! Meow Wolf is a really cool place for those epic Instagram photos, it’s a whole museum of cool photos spots!
Have a drink and bite at Happy Camper in RINO for an upbeat fun experience!
No trip to Colorado is complete without a trip to the mountains! Estes Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, even the Boulder Flatirons have some amazing views and hiking at a short distance from Denver.
Obviously, if it’s winter, grab your boars/skis and hit some of the best ski resorts in the country! Keystone Resort for beginners, Arapahoe Basin for advanced riders.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents have always supported me with all my endeavors, but especially in making my huge career change. It is nice to always have someone in your corner believing and supporting your dreams.
