We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Sloan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeff, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
I get to be creative everyday, what’s cooler than that! Whether I’m drawing animals for a t-shirt design, creating patterns for wallpaper, laying out copy on a menu for a restaurant, working on a branding project or making art, I love what I do. It’s a challenge for sure and can be a struggle to be motivated all of the time to be creative but just getting into the process is what’s drives me to keep going. Don’t get me wrong Design and Art has its ups and downs just like everything else and it can be hard. But at the end of the day I get to make visual graphics that can make people smile, laugh, or stop them in their tracks to think for a minute. Plus I get to work with so many different types of people and industry’s so the learning never stops.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a Designer and Artist Im always trying to combine the two and most say don’t do that or you can’t, they are different! Design is about problem solving where Art is subjective is what some might say. I do fine that there’s a fine line where they do cross paths and thats where the best work comes from in my opinion. Some of my best work is creating custom wall paper / wall coverings / murals lots of large format. Not only do I get to be creative and make illustration but I’ve had to figure out how does this get build out, how does it get printed and installed. Was it easy nope never is but thats part of it you just roll with it and figure it out the best you can. A few good lessons I have learned along the way is enjoy the process, good things take time and never take anything personal. At the end of the day I get to be creative and make things which is a huge blessing. I would like to take my Designs and Art to a bigger platform for more people to see, to create murals, work in the music and snowboard industry’s and even textiles.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Rino is a short bike ride from my house and the food choices down there are top notch. Cart and Driver and Barcelona are my two faves to grab a bite from. If its coffee I would say Crema, Queen City would be the place to go. Always have to go to the mountains for a hike or just to chill, we need that nature air. If red rocks is in full effect then yes if there’s a show we are going no questions. MCA is always a good go to for an afternoon art walk.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For person it would be my wife Megan she has supported me through and through! And My parents (they still don’t understand what I do) but they support it no matter what

Books
