We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Ho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
To keep going or to give up is a difficult question on it’s own and coupled with knowing which path to pursue creates a whole other monster. I think if the underlying foundational passion is still bellowing beneath your decision to create, the answer will always be to keep going, especially in the hard times of uncertainty that creep in on us. That uncertainty has tested my passion and desire to continue pursuing the hard path of moving past the thought of failure, but I keep going despite my own doubts because I love what I do. That sense of knowing to continue comes from a deep fire within that ignited the decision in the first place. It’s human nature to test ourselves and doubt ourselves every once in awhile but we persevere through our sheer dedication to our craft and allow all the other noise to fall by the wayside.

I am a graphic designer by day and a cut paper artist by night, I have had a love and passion for the creative space since I could remember. As a child, my mother would sit for hours and hand cut velvet paper with nothing but an exacto knife and from a young age, I remember watching in awe and telling myself that one day I would learn and make my own creations. I became self-taught and eventually began my own process, which I’ve refined over the years and in my journey learned a lot about myself as an artist as well as the parts of my process that maybe weren’t serving me positively. My journey, as many have experienced has been a tough one, with many obstacles testing my passion and will to continue but I’ve been lucky enough to have amazing supportive friends, family and coworkers cheering me on. I’ve learned that passion is enough to keep you going through times of doubt and whether you are where you want to be or thought you’d be, there is always the possibility of achieving your goal with the right mindset and dedication to persevere. My brand: jhomade A Ho Bunch O Stuff is exactly as it sounds, a bunch of original, hand drawn and hand cut, cut paper pieces as well as some graphic stationary like posters, greeting cards and stickers. I am an artist with a thirst for joy and life and I try to let my everyday experiences guide my work in hopes to share with others as I pour a little of myself into each of my pieces.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado is a hub of fantastic places to explore, it’s got something for everyone. Below are a couple of must visits in my opinion: 1. The city of Golden, a former gold rush town at the foothills of the rocky mountains where you can go tubing down clear creek in the summer time or walk around with friends and family to get some shopping in at a tea shop; Old Barrel Tea Company or a bite to eat at D’s Deli or Sassafrass. 2. The Denver milk market at dairy block which is a 16-concept food hall in downtown Denver. A great place to meet up with friends or walk around and try many delicious restaurants. 3. Of course, you got to get up to the mountains, lookout mountain is a great location to stop and breath in fresh mountain air and take in all the sights of beautiful mountains and sky. 4. Lastly, if you have the time, strawberry hot springs is a must.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My best friend and sister from another mister, Katy Martin has been a constant shining light in my pursuit of opening my own llc and etsy shop and I owe her a world of gratitude and love. She has always been a big support in times of self-doubt and an even bigger cheerleader when it comes to promotion and amazing opportunities. I cannot be more thankful to have Katy by my side and truly giving me genuine confidence in myself and my talent, she has and continues to blow me away with her support and I couldn’t thank her enough for her years of kind words.
