We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer McCann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Life Done Right Bags (LDR Bags) with the focus of improving everyday travel for parents with young kids that have moved beyond diapers bags. We are designing parent-approved “day bags” for those with young children that are constantly on-the-go at sports practices, errands, adventures… you name it. As a parent of two (1 and 3 years of age) I became very aware that bringing diapers, snacks, clothes, toys, and medicines/creams for two kids was impossible to keep organized, dry and compact in the bags currently available. Therefore, our goal is not only to produce stylish and functional bags, but also address the requests of today’s parents that no longer need infant focused products but desire an option geared toward improving organized travel for families.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am PhD scientist by training have typically viewed life in a organized and structured fashion. While science is never easy and comes with much unpredictability it has been a driving force for me personally and professionally. Through years of academics and industry I learned to embrace the unpredictability as it often leads you to a path less followed. I have taken these leanings and applied them to my business, LDR Bags through incorporating organization and modularity into our backpack to allow for anyone to adapt to the unpredictable changes of everyday life. Much like science, our goal is to improve the quality of life for anyone seeking to adventure, such as a new mom on her first adventure to the store with multiple kids, or a young couple driving across the country. We can confidently say at Life Done Right Bags, that an adventure is not where you go but how you live it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our favorite spots as a young family largely consist of outdoor adventures where we can pack our snacks, blankets, and apparel to enjoy the simple happiness of splashing in streams, having imaginary powers with the flick of a stick, or just feeling the ground beneath our feet. Although we don’t spend everyday outside, we like to take our visiting family and friends anywhere to unplug and reset.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Our success has been founded on the feedback of other families and travelers that have supported our dreams in developing a modular day bag for organized travel. Although this bag originated with the intention of improving family travel (big or small), through sharing our idea we received support beyond our envisioned market and into spaces we hadn’t considered. So we give credit to those that have come forth to try our Peanut Bag for personal, business or recreational uses. We have now focused our mission on improving everyday adventures for anyone and everyone through our organized and modular backpack.
