We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Pearson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenny, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I think some people think that facials are just fluffy, “luxury” treatments or that estheticians seem vain by telling everyone they need facials to look younger; but I chose to become an esthetician because I love making people feel good. As an esthetician it is my job to not only perform facial treatments but to also educate about skincare in general and to help clients learn how to take care of their unique skin type. It is so rewarding to see a client light up after their acne is cleared or watching a client become more confident without wearing makeup. Visits can be for relaxation, to start a new skincare routine or target bigger skincare concerns; but treatments will always be customized specifically for you!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Room 9 3/4 is all about customized skincare treatments. While I could offer makeup application, waxing and eyelash extensions, eyebrow treatments, I knew my real passion was facial treatments. I loved that I could create a business and focus on something I really enjoyed. There is nothing easy about being a business owner. One of the biggest challenges I’ve had is that I wear all the hats. Owner, esthetician, marketing, inventory, receptionist, accounting…etc. While this is an ongoing challenge, I’ve been trying to be kind to myself in the process. For example: you don’t have to answer that e-mail right away, you don’t have to post on social media everyday, you can take a day to recover, don’t squeeze someone in if there’s not enough time. Even though somedays I feel like I finally have all the roles down, I will continue to learn and grow with my business. I joke quite often that if I could do this for free I would; that’s just how much I love what I do. I feel incredibly thankful I have created a business that brings me such joy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My top places in Northern Colorado: 1. Northern Colorado has some of the best Breweries so we would definitely be doing some Brewery hopping (Mash Lab, High Hops, Timnath Beerworks, Mighty River Brewing are some of my favorites!) 2. Rent paddleboards, kayaks or water bike at Windsor Lake 3. Enjoy a coffee or Ice Cream treat at Windsor Lake Coffee 4. Dinner at Windsor Mill Tavern (tasty cocktails and appetizers!) 5. Take a walk on the Poudre River Trail 6. Check out Old Town Fort Collins. Tons of cute places to eat and get drinks. Sometimes they even have live music in the main square. 7. Visit Horsetooth Reservoir. Gorgeous views and hiking trails!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family is absolutely amazing! They encouraged me to start Room 9 3/4, supported me through all my ups and downs AND have never asked for a discount since I’ve opened! Other business owners know that is huge 😉 I appreciate their patience, guidance, suggestions, encouragement and love through it all. Also a huge shout out to all the other esthetician’s out there! To the ones I know personally or others I follow on social media, you help inspire me to keep learning and growing as an esthetician.
