Meet Jenny Smiley

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Jenny Smiley again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Jenny, always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
My name is Jenny Smiley and I own and operate a destination wedding photography business based in Colorado. I specialize in smaller, more intimate weddings for couples that are looking for more than a “party” on their wedding day but an “experience”. I encourage adventure, movement, and epic scenery to couples to start this new chapter together.

Awesome, so we reached out because we wanted to hear all about what you have been up to since we last connected.
I’ve owned and operated my business for 7 years now. Every year I get the opportunity to travel to exciting places. This past wedding season I got to shoot weddings and elopements in Yosemite National Park, Kauai, Telluride, Santa Barbara, Connecticut and all over my home state of Colorado! I love that my dream of travel has aligned with my business and I continue to learn and grow from working with such incredible clients. My business is growing and every year I try to build upon the last year to learn and lean into my creative side while providing the best client experience. At the end of the day, it’s not about the photos. It’s about the people and what they are feeling in those moments in front of the camera.

Alright, so let’s do something a bit more fast-paced and lighthearted. We call this our lightning round and we’ll ask you a few quick questions.
Favorite Movie: There are too many to chose from
Favorite Book: I love business books – “When to Jump” helped me start my business
Favorite TV Show: Below Deck
Favorite Band or Artist: Currently it’s a tie between Teddy Swims and Benson Boone
Sweet or Savory: Both at the same time
Mountains or Beach: I grew up in the mountains but I do also love the beach
Favorite Sport (to watch): Hockey
Favorite Sport (to play): Volleyball
Did you play sports growing up (if so which ones): I was a dancer 🙂
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up: Ballerina
Favorite Childhood movie: Homeward Bound or Free Willy
What do you want people to remember about you and your brand? What are some of things that you feel are most important, unique, special, etc?
I want people to remember me for my authenticity. Both as a human being and my brand. I believe in real love and experiences and I want to help couples see the possibilities of what their wedding day could look like and how it could feel. Not what they are “supposed to do” or how they are “supposed to feel”. I want to help them create an experience that they can share with future generations and relive through the photos.
