We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerrod Hardy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jerrod, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk and the fear associated with it are essential to have in life. Those feelings allow us to recognize when we are doing something that challenges us, expands our limits, and makes us feel alive. I know if I feel those butterflies in my stomach when I am pondering whether or not to accept that new project, write the new book, or do that speech, then I should definitely do it because I will grow from the experience.

When we decide to embrace the fear associated with risk taking for the enjoyment of the experience and process instead of worrying about outcomes the possibility in our lives becomes endless.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started The On Purpose Podcast in 2019 as a follow up to my book “Extraordinary People in Ordinary Places” and as a way to share the amazing stories of extraordinary people in ordinary places in our lives.

It has grown to have a world wide audience that we are humbled to serve with purposeful content each week. I am most proud that we have earned their trust and that they value their time with us each week.

The biggest lesson I have learned in this process is the value of consistency. Being consistent in the product your create, the energy you bring, the delivery of the message, and in just showing up. So many “overnight sensations” are actually the product of years and years of hard work by the artists and it is only possible because they continued to show up.

So for me being consistent in doing what I felt called to do and doing it to the best of my ability without knowing if anyone would read my book, or listen to my show. I showed up week after week. I showed up writing chapter after chapter. I showed up scared, afraid, wondering if any of it would matter or work out the way I had hoped. I showed up knowing that no matter the outcome I would be proud of the fact we took this leap, chose to believe in the face of fear, and created something that allows the world to become just a bit better of a place.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I like Denver and the whole metro area but I’d take them north to Fort Collins!

– We would visit Social in Old Town for a speakeasy prohibition era feel for a drink
– Definitely grabbing lunch at Young’s Vietnamese restaurant by far the best around
– If your hanging out with me your into fitness so we are going to Trials Mixed Martial Arts to get in some Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing and MMA
– If in the spring and early summer we are headed up the Poudre Canyon to float the river and enjoy nature away from all the crowds.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First off to my wife of 23 years, Andrea for being open to the possibilities that our life could be more, different, and truly fulfilling by looking at things differently.

To all the amazing purpose driven leaders I have been influenced by, Matt Erdman, Cole Zempel, Jarion Beets, Zach Mercurio, Ryan Schultz, Jeff Cisneros all come to mind quickly.

When your circle of influence includes a bunch of high performers who choose to believe in themselves and what’s possible it become contagious and inspiring.
