We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesca Jaymes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jesca, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Success can be defined in many ways. I have always tried to make it my mission to continuously redefine success at different phases in my personal career. Adjusting it when new milestones have been achieved or when I decide to pivot my focus. I have always felt the word success is subjective. For some, success means wealth or notoriety but for me in this very moment success is defined as setting a goal and doing everything in my power to achieve it until I have a new one to reach. The most important factor behind the success of I Am Power would be that someone has heard these stories being told and in those stories they have found their own power and ability to overcome whatever they are facing, to be the best version of themselves. Creating a space where we don’t feel alone in our struggles and having the encouragement to face them is the drive behind this project. Also to create awareness, empathy, understanding and education for a variety of subjects that some have encountered.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a visual artist who specializes in acrylic paintings with a deep desire to change the world and how we view ourselves in it.
After finding myself in a slump with the art I was creating, and desiring for there to be more meaning behind it, I decided to do something completely out of my comfort zone. (Life begins when we step out of our comfort zones, right?)
A podcast. But not just any podcast. One where I would scour the internet in search of incredible humans who defied odds, conquered their traumas and were gracious enough to share them with me and you. My hope for this mission is to create a safe space where we all feel heard and valid in our own experiences. To not feel alone. To help create empathy and understanding for our fellow humans. To create a platform for us to share our stories or hear our stories in someone else’s. Because at the end of the day, everyone has a story someone, somewhere out there needs to hear.
It doesn’t stop there. I knew there was more that needed to be done. More that I could do. So after hearing these powerful stories, I head straight to my studio and create a piece of art that represents what I personally felt and saw from these incredible stories of transformation and each guest gets to keep the original as a thank you and a personal reminder of how great they truly are.
I also wanted for you to have a piece of art that reminds you just how amazing and powerful you are. So each episode has a limited run of prints that can be purchased, if you, the listener feel connected to the story or the art that goes with it, as your own personal reminder to step into you power.
I think it is safe to say that every artist goes through moments in their life where they feel like “This is Hard” and their desires appear unachievable. I still do on a regular basis. But that’s because our goals change all the time. Our visions of success change all the time. We have to remember that there was once a time in our lives or careers where we wished we would be right where we are now. Life is a journey, careers are journeys. It’s important that we keep looking forward to the next milestone but also important that we take the time to reflect on where we have been so that we can truly appreciate where we are now. I think everything that truly means something is hard and those monumental things in life never come easy. I think that if it did come easy we would take it for granted. That’s a lesson that I have learned and will continue to learn until the day I am no longer here.
Every day is a chance to learn something new, to be a better version of yourself and this podcast and the art that goes along with it has and continues to change my life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am not from Colorado but If I had the chance to visit I would definitely want to Surf at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve and go white water rafting.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to my husband and guests of the I Am Power Podcast. My best friend and husband helped me fall back in love with art and encouraged me to embrace my talents after a very dark time in my life. He motivates me every day to be the best version of my self while inspiring me to always grown and learn. To each and every guest who shares their story on the podcast, this would not be possible without them. The impact that they have made on my personal life is indescribable and I would not be where I am today had I not had the chance to hear and share their stories.
