We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Figueroa Ruiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When covid hit, I had to sacrifice my Carrer in the medical field and become a stay home mother due to social distancing protocols. My husband at the time was still able to provide which we were very thankful. But as a wife I still wanted to help bring an income in. So as mother I wanted to teach my boys to be adaptable in any situation. I have many talents, so I decided to sew mask and we sold them for $5 for kid’s mask and $10 for the adult’s mask. We did pretty well but I wanted to use my shop skills and create memorable gift that people could use for a lifetime. So, I decide to buy a laser machine and put my skills to use, making very versatile gifts from cutting boards, serving trays, coasters, cannabis trays, wedding bouquet/ flower preservation etc. I couldn’t be more happier knowing that I taught my kids that life can and will get hard but there’s always a way to make an income and push forward and that nothing is easy and hard work will always pay off.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have a deep sense of caring for others, so when I decided to do my business, I wanted to set myself apart from others and wanted to custom make orders that were of my customer’s choice and not mine. I wanted to bounce off ideas and create memorable gifts that hold value to them. For example, I had a customer her daughter passed away and she wanted a sentimental gift that represented the bound they held. So, we came up with a serving tray that I did fractural burning on and I inlayed it with red resin. And in the middle was a music note that was inlayed with black resin that represented their love for music. Not only was she in tears but it was heart felt was heart felt knowing I picked a business that allowed my customer total control in what they wanted I just brought their ideas to life. Starting a profession business isn’t easy I had my doubts and challenges but remined myself why did I started I the first place? I took a chance on myself and owe it to myself, mother and kids to see how fare this takes me. I learned nothing in life is going to be easy nor prefect it’s only what you make of it. The one thing I know is people will always forget your name but one thing they will never forget is how you made them feel and how you treated them. So, with that being said I want the world to know my true authentic self and knowing that my brand comes with handcrafted love, patience and understanding. Something you don’t get much of these days. We all have a very unique story to tell, and I want people’s stories to be told through my custom orders.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Glenwood springs, spend a couple of days their visiting the hot springs and eating at the Slope & Hatch restaurant. That would be our first day, for our second day, we’d go to our local grocery store and pack lunch for our rafting trip at blue sky adventures. Then we’d head back into town on our third day we’d do a workout session at CrossFit mob in Thornton. Then head back to my house and make lunch, after lunch relax and catch up on time missed.

Possible nap and get ready for our evening at Blackhawk for some gambling and fun with family and friends. Our fourth and fifth day would be spent resting and enjoy home cooked meals with loved ones. On the sixth day I’d take them to our local farmers market to support small local business and our course get some fresh produce to make dinner and enjoy our last day together. On our last day we’d do breakfast and visit spill the tea boba for a delicious drink to end out last day together.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My kids and mother deserve a lot of the recognition, I have three amazing boys and a mother that don’t realize what a blessing they are! They have motivated and encouraged me every step of the way and constantly remind me to keep pushing forward and finish what I started. I’d also like to thank project 3-6-9 for their manifestation journal. writing in it every day kept me focused and grounded on what I was trying to achieve and what i truly wanted with my small business.
