We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Valant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have been a physical therapist and Pilates teacher for 20 years and noticed a while ago that our industry had no place for gathering where we could simply move together and celebrate. I wanted a festival atmosphere where we could have movement classes and shopping and joy and community and dancing and fun! So my husband and I founded Momentum Fest in 2018. It is held annually in Denver and brings together students and teachers from all different movement backgrounds for an amazing event where ANYONE is welcome!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Momentum Fest was developed to celebrate movement and community. It’s all about moving your body, mind and soul. Typical fitness classes and conferences can easily forget the JOY in movement and being together! This year, more than ever, we want to remember what it’s like to feel hope, community and celebration. We had to cancel our event in 2020 and that was extremely hard for all of us! Many people in our industry have lost businesses and many students have had to stop going to their favorite Pilates, yoga and dance classes. We have worked very hard to give some hope and joy back to our community through the past year and we hope to do that at our 2021 event being held June 25-27 here in Denver!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love downtown Denver. I would do a walking tour of Union Station and the new McGregor Square. Breakfast at Snooze and then some browsing at Tattered Cover. Maybe an afternoon coffee at REI to watch the kayakers. Then the next day we would cruise out to Red Rocks because no trip to Denver is complete without it! Some hiking in Genessee, beers in Golden and – of course – sushi at Sushi Den!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Everyone who has ever supported Momentum Fest as an attendee, teacher, volunteer, exhibitor or sponsor. We are so thankful for your love and encouragement!
